It was now finally, the very last class before the beginning of the Winter Break. Snow had not softly covered Hogwarts castle, but there had been no heavy snowfall yet. Just enough to make it plain as to which season it was.
The fireplace in the Transfiguration class room was roaring, and it's heat was absorbed by the stone of the classroom walls and floors. Students would likely immediately appreciate the warmth of the room from the chilly temperatures outdoors.
Orynn appeared to have been in class for some time already, and there was an empty mug of tea that was on his podium to suggest it. He shuffled through some papers as some students began to file in.

Lilianne walked into class. "Hello, Professor..." She said quickly as she passed Orynn.
She sat down at her usual seat and took her books out. Then as she waited for the class to start, she took a button out of her pocket and started trying to change it's color.

Kel came into class slightly behind Lilianne, smiling faintly out the windows at the soft fluffy snow laying in a thin layer over the grounds, rounding everything into soft shapes and muted colors. She padded down the aisle in soft-soled boots, lined with fleece for warmth in the drafty castle, and drew her long black school cloak around her, pulling her hands, which were sheathed in knitted fingerless gloves, into the wide sleeves. She slipped into a seat farther back than forward and set her things up as she always did. She looked around once she was seated comfortably, spotting a few students chatting, a couple doodling and even less practicing turning various things even more various colors. She found Lilianne, practicing on a button, and smiled. Lilianne had come so far.
Brown hair falling over her face, Kel bent over her notebook, working on the finishing touches on her tree. She was adding the leaves onto the splayed twigs, and once she finished those, she thought she would add a few trees for company. She would do that over Christmas vacation, then maybe pop a few birds in and figure out how to make those flit around the trees. Kel continued drawing, but her mind was hard at work behind her focused eyes, thinking about what books she could find in the library to help her.

"Good morning students." Orynn said as he put away his papers and focused on his lecture. He began pacing, indicative of the Deputy.
"Today will be a real treat. You will all be practicing the Switching spell on yourself, and a partner. Don't get too excited though. Although the spell can turn your hair, eyes, skin, along with other possibilities, into different colors. You'll not be able to change for example, the length of your bones, or the shape of your face. I imagine you'll still find this quite fun, at least; 'tis my wish.
"Are there any questions before we begin?"

Kel's eyes, which had popped open at the announcement that they were going to be practicing on each other, did not fall like some other people's when Professor Novim told them they couldn't change their bones, or in other words how tall they were. She had seen a few shorter kids look around excitedly at the prospect of growing a few inches.
She looked to Lilianne, asking her with her eyes if she wanted to be partners. Kel hoped Lilianne would be okay with this class; when she had had a spell cast upon her in DADA class, she had missed the rest of the class, and didn't look so good for a while after.

Lilianne did look concerned when the teacher said they would be practicing on each other, but not for the reasons a couple of whispering and snickering students seemed to imply.
She was as worried about having a transfiguration spell cast on her, than she was of messing up and hurting a fellow student badly.
She caught Keladry's look and smiled nervously back at her. She appreciated that Keladry was always willing to pair up with her, but would she still want to after she set her hair on fire or something?

"If you have paired up, or have decided to practice on your own, then begin." The Professor announced, and immediately; some students began to do so.
With a wave of his wand, Orynn transfigured his podium into a full-length mirror. He levitated it off the platform and back down again so that it would be easier for students who were casting Switching spells on themselves to see the results.
After that was done, Orynn sat down on the desk nearest the mirror. Available and ready to address any concerns or worries that the other students may have had.

Kel shut her notebook with a muffled snap, sticking her pencil into her bag as she got out of her seat and went over to Lilianne. "Do you want to go first?" Kel asked cautiously, because she didn't look too good. "I promise I won't get mad at you if you turn my hair green." she added.

Lilianne smiled at Keladry. "Well, actually, green might be a good color for your hair, it would look good with your eyes... Maybe I should try exactly that, in fact... I can picture it pretty good... It's only a temporary change, anyway..."
She lifted her wand, and stared at Kel for a while, he face screwing up in concentration.
Don't mess up...
She tried her hardest to picture Keladry with green hair, and waved her wand.
"Suppono Res Rei..."
"Suppono Res Rei."
"Suppono Res Rei..."
"Suppono Res Rei!"
Lilianne tried several times, but nothing happenned. She frowned, staring down at her wand.
Well, better nothing than something horrible, right?
She shrugged at Keladry. "Hum... Maybe I'm not picturing it hard enough... Maybe I should give it a little rest, let you have a try..."

Still grinning at Lilianne's joke, Kel raised her wand, picturing Lilianne's school robes as a nice ruby color. She had always hated the drab black. She aimed carefully, then commanded "Suppono Res Rei!" Nothing happened. Kel focused harder, then without letting go of the picture in her head, again flicked her wand, saying "Suppono Res Rei!" firmly as she did so. Lilianne's robes turned a pinkish color, not nearly dark or bold enough to be the ruby-red color Kel had imagined. She lowered her wand, then raised it again, determined to finish. She gathered her determination and gripped her wand tightly. "Suppono Res Rei!" The robes shifted through colors, getting darker red, and finally settling on a dark reddish-brown. It still wasn't the color Kel had concentrated on, but it was pretty darn close.
She switched her wand to the other hand, smiling slightly. "I actually meant for them to be Gryffindor red, like the rubies in your hourglass, but it's kinda big. I got pretty close, though!" she finishes, smiling wider.

"Well, that's still pretty good! You're getting close, too! I'll try again..."
Her face screwing up in concentration again, Lilianne took a deep breath and tried to change Keladry's hair to green again.
"Suppono Res Rei."
Nothing.
"Suppono Res Rei."
Nothing again. Well, maybe Kel's hair took a very subtle change of tint, but Lilianne wasn't sure it wasn't just a trick of the light.
"Suppono Res Rei!"
Keladry's hair quickly lightened, then shifted to an outragous bright green color. Lilianne nearly dropped her wand in surprise.

Kel, who could see her hair out of the corner of her eyes, started also. She grabbed a handful of hair and brought it into her vision, and squealed. "You did it! I mean, I kinda doubt you were trying to make it bright green, but it's green!" She launched herself across the small space between them, hugging Lilianne happily.

Lilianne giggled, embarassed.
"Well... Actually, at first I was trying a darker shade of green, but I couldn't do it, so I pictured a brighter green, and I think it was easier because the color stands out more in my mind..."
Lilianne gently pushed herself out of Keladry's grasp. "Thank you, you're a good partner... You should try again with my robes, make them brighter."
Leaning back in her chair, she looked at Keladry's hair, and couldn't help but giggle again. She looked pretty funny, with lime coloured hair...

Orynn approached the pair, after making the round with the other students and helping when required. He thought to ask them to proceed and pretend he was not there, but this usually was impossible for students. Especially females. Orynn was either too intimidating, or too good-looking for students to pay any mind to what they were doing. Orynn shook the irritating thoughts from his mind and continued to say.
"Is everything well here."

Lilianne stiffened as she heard the professor adress them.
"Hum, we're doing great, I think, Sir..."
