Steve nodded, and walked over to the brooms, some rushing up to them, some remaining calm. He picked one up, carefully as Aesir said, and walked back to where he was before. He didn't bother picking one that was supposedly the best. They looked the same to him. Maybe some students just wanted attention, or were REALLY picky. Though, he had to admit, just making your broom fly up into your hand is really cool.

Neoma smiled at the small display of conjuring that the professor demonstrated. That was cool! Summoning a broom like that with no aid. What magic Neoma thought to herself. Maybe this instructor wouldn't be so bad afterall.
When he asked them all to fetch a broom, Neoma didn't expect the reaction that it had. All the students beside her, in back of her, immediately lept and ran and tackled their way to get a broom. Neoma shielded her head as she was passed by a handful of students. When they all finally got by her, she lowered her arms and looked ahead worried there would not be any brooms left.
The crowd dispersed, returning to where that had stood before, and Neoma jogged to fetch the very last broom. She bent down and picked it up, it was a charcoal black color, with straw which looked like it had caught fire but hadn't lost any bristles. Again, as Neoma jogged quickly past the instructor and back to where she had been standing, she got the eerie feeling this would not be her best class.

Kel screeched to a halt at the back of a clump of students. 'Crap! I'm late!' Kel thought. She was already late for her first class!
"I'm so sorry, Professor!" She said to the man at the head of the crowd of eleven year olds.
She looked around at the students around her; they all seemed to have brooms in their hands. She went over to get another one, but found that they were all gone. She looked around, wondering if this was an accident or not.

He looked to the girl rushing towards class and shrugged. "That's alright Lass. You'll just make up for it by cleaning everything up around here. Next time, it's House Points, that understood? Now, since there aren't any brooms left, pair up with someone."
Aesir walked among the students, moving their hands, giving them proper tips on how to stand and command the broom, what height to have the hand leveled and so forth. This went on for a good five minutes until he decided to grab their attention again.
"Okay, not bad, not bad. Let's try it one more time, alright?" he asked looking to the students.
This was rather pathetic so far. Oh well, they didn't build Rome in a day.
He looked to the puzzled and inept students.
It should have.

Neoma hadn't noticed Kel, she was still too focused on her broom that she had picked out. Quite a pitiful looking thing, all blackened and bland unlike the rest of the brooms. Still, it seemed to stare up at her mockingly. Teasing her to [just try and summon it up.
"Up!" She said with her hand and fingers outstretched before her. Nothing happened. She said it again, still nothing.
Once more, prolonging the first sylable, no change. Instead of getting frustrated, she just stared down at her fingers as she moved them to and fro. Maybe a different approach?
Sehe moved closer to the broom, and positioned her open palm above the stick. "Up!" She said again.
This time the broom twitched a bit, but by now Neoma had had enough, "Oh up alrea--!" Neoma was cut off as the broom launched from the ground right into Neoma awaiting grasp, and kept going. Neoma's legs dangled about two inches fro mthe ground as she held tightly to the broom with one hand.
Almost immediately she fell back to the ground, the surprise causing her to fall to one knee. She stared at the broom in her hand, Fiesty one this one is.

Stevie was too focused on getting this broom up into his hand, so he didn't notice Keladry come in. Stevie looked at his broom, and thought to himself, 'C'mon, just go up...
"Up!" It hovered about five inches off the ground, being stared at by Stevie, before falling down. He frowned slightly, then added a bit more emphasis to his voice.
"Up!" With that, the broom flew into his hand, and he stood there for a bit before it finally came to him. it worked. He looked around, a bunch of students were still trying to get their brooms up. This made Stevie feel pretty good about himself, to the point where he had forgotten for a bit at how he was supposed to go to Aesir's office after class. That one thought still lingered around his mind. What did he do? Oh well. At least he got his broom up.

Aesir looked among all the students and was thoroughly disappointed as he saw none of them could do it.
I take it back. Maybe they are just as dumb as you- Neoma's broom burst upwards, lifting her off the ground and Stevie's jumped into his hand.
Maybe one or two others got it. It took a lot of effort for Aesir not to simply leap with joy.
Never mind!
He looked to Neoma, who'd fallen down and Stevie who beamed proudly. "Excellent! Alright, those of you who succeeded this time, come on forward. The rest-" he said looking to the others with an almost venomous look "-practice makes perfect. Keep practicing."

Stevie took a step forward, a bit shocked at how only he and a couple others, including Neoma, has managed to successfully lift their brooms into their hands. That was a good thing. He was alreayd doing good in this class.
He turned back to Aesir, awaiting further instruction. He doubted some students would continue practicing, and just chat. People at Stevie's old school always did that.

Kel was still looking around for a broom, and finally found one behind a clump of girls who were mainly just giggling and pointing at the professor instead of doing anything. She grabbed it up and found an empty spot of grass. She set the long shaft down, then positioned her hand over it.
She could hear other students saying 'Up', so she did the same. "Up!" She commanded her broom. It twitched, rolling halfway over, then falling back. She frowned. "Up!" She told it again, mentally reaching out with her magic, pulling the length of wood and attached twigs up into her hand. The broom leaped into her hand, sending a shock of magic through her. Kel almost dropped the broom in surprise. She had done that when she was younger, before she had a wand to focus her magic, but she had never done something that powerful before. The magic had shocked her as it raced back into her core, reuniting itself with the rest of the brunette's magic.
Kel looked up when she head Professor McLeod tell them to come up to him if they had gotten their broom up, and she went up to him, pleasantly surprised to see Stevie and Neoma up there also. She looked around at the other students, but didn't see a lot of Hufflepuffs. She saw a few Slytherins, five Gryffindors and a Ravenclaw, but other than that, it was just her and Neoma representing Hufflepuff.

Aesir looked to the group of four first years who had managed to successfully make the broom move.
Wow, that's it? A little disappointing.
One of the first year Gryfindor boys said the command word, only to have the broom rise up and catch him in the crotch.
Okay, could be worse.
He looked to the small group; Stevie, Neoma, the late girl and one ravenclaw boy. He looked at them and passed them; to make sure none of the first years tried to fly off, or toy around with the brooms.
"Now that you four have more or less gotten the hang of it, to which we will practice each class, I'll teach you how to properly hold your broom to begin a standard takeoff." he began sternly, holding his arm out, grasping the broom. "What ye must do is hold the front end with your leading hand, depending on whether yer left or right handed. Ye have to hold the forward part, called the yoke, like a tennis or badminton racket, not like a baseball bat. Understood?"
He looked to the four moving through each one to adjust their grasp. After a few moments, he looked to the other students. One group in particular was a group of first year girls.
"Ladies," Aesir began in a honey smooth tone. "if ye really want ter keep lookin' at this handsome teacher and not do yer work, that's fine by me. S'matter of fact, ye can look at me as much as ye'd like when yer in detention. So, I might suggest ye start workin', or get a picture. It lasts longer."
It took a few moments for the giggling girls to register.
"Now." he said narrowing his eyes. The proceeded to get back to work. He looked to the four again. "Right, sorry about that."
He gave the four a wink, clearly pleased with their progress. "Have any of ye seen a standard take off before?"

Neoma had no clue how to hold a badminton racket, or a baseball bat. She was never really the sporty type. Because of this fact, the Flyign instructor had to fidget with her hands quite a bit before she got it right. She took a mental picture of what her hands looked like, so that to remember for next time.
She whipped up to look at the INstructor as he posed his question. Take off?! she thought to herself, but I thought we weren't flying today. She subconsciously clutched onto her broom tighter.

Kel rearranged her hands so that they weren't so close together, focusing upon what her dad had taught her. He hadn't let her fly, though, and she was thrilled to hear that they would be able to take off today.
She listened with satisfaction as Professor McLeod dealt with the girls she had seen earlier, then turned her attention back to her stance, listening to his question. Her hand shot up. "I've seen my dad take off hundreds of times. He sort of kicks off, guiding the yoke with his hands. He points it up, and just sort of goes."

Stevie caught on quick to the positioning. He almost snickered when he heard him deal with the girls. Almost. He shook his head, he had never seen anyone fly before. He thought of how cool it would be if he did... But he didn't. He was doing something better- he was about to experience it.

Aesir nodded as he tucked the broom in between his legs and sat down onto it, his hands not holding the broom at all as he balanced on it, the broom hovering enough for his feet to not touch the ground. "Now, listen here. Yer brooms be the type that can't fly; they hover. So even if ye did try to take off, ye'll only be going high enough for me to easily poke you in the eye, should I choose to do so."
He rested his hands on the front of the yoke. "Place yer hands on the front jus' like I showed ye, after ye tuck it in between yer legs and plop yer bottoms onter it. As the first excercise, yer ter practice a take off. You blanace yerself on the balls of yer feet and give a light push fer now. Like so."
Aesir pushed off the ground with ease and hovered above the ground. "See? Piece o' cake. Once ye learn how ter do that-" he began, a mischievous look in his eye as he set down again, adjusting his goggles onto his eyes with one hand. "-ye can do this!"
He brought his body low to the ground as he burst upward, the grass rippling in his wake. He whooped loudly as he flew skyward like a cannonball. The professor pulled it back down into a steep dive and soared back down to the ground in seconds flat. Pulling back on the yoke, it quickly slowed down and allowed him to touch the ground once more.
"But that's another lesson altogether. Let's try the first." he said, grinning from ear to ear.

Stevie watched the professor's showing, eyes widened in amazement. He's going to learn how to do THAT? Stevie quickly put his broom in between his legs, and sat down, balancing with the balls of his feet like Aesir said. He closed his eyes, and gave a slight push.
He quickly opened them. His feet hadn't touched the ground. He quickly looked to the side, careful not to move his hands, and he was still in the air. He was still in the air. He beamed, this was great! He kept there in place, not daring to move. Yet, at least. He didn't want to screw this up while he had it good.
