Kel, after changing into better snowball fight clothes - a large fur hat with folded-down earflaps, the same fleece-lined boots she had been wearing inside on the staircase, a sunshine-yellow scarf and jeans over leggings - stepped outside, taking in a deep breath of the slightly crisp late-winter air. She looked around, noticing that neither Fay nor Arcturus were there yet, then got a dastardly idea. She scooped up a handful of snow, then darted behind a large willow tree, packing the snow into a serviceable snowball. She aimed a quick peek around the base of the tree, but it was still clear.

Arcturus blinked in surprise at the first year. She had stolen his idea! Thankfully, she hadn't noticed him. She had darted behind the willow that he was currently hiding behind. He hadn't expected that, but he also happened to be concealed behind an evergreen bush, and also had covered himself in snow, and pressed himself to the ground, making it nigh on impossible to see him. He had had just had enough time to get concealed before she came tearing out of the front gate. Geez, that girl just couldn't stay still! Thankfully, she knew of none of the relevant secret passages that had allowed Arcturus to beat her here.
Noiselessly standing up, he took careful aim at the back of her head. Then, deciding he had a better idea, he leaned over the scrawny bush and tapped her shoulder before quickly crouching down behind the bush and muffling his laughter with difficulty.

"AIIIIIIIGH!!!!!!!!" Kel screamed. She whirled around, instinctively dropping her snowball and grabbing for her wand, tucked up her sleeve. She spotted a bright orange tuft of hair, and immediately assumed what had happened. She scooped up a handful of snow and pegged Arcturus. "That was cruel." she informed him, her fright gone, righteous anger taking its place, almost immediately replaced by laughter. "Ahahahaha! But totally perfect!" she guffawed. She couldn't be mad when she knew full well that was exactly what she would have done.

He had done it again. His sugar levels were at an all-time high, surprisingly. And he felt like running. Running a lot. And what better place to run than outside? Little did he know, he was going into a warzone.
He noticed Kel out of the corner of his eye. He stopped, trying to say hi, but ended up falling from his feet slipping from under him. Stevie wasn't one to get up quickly from the fall, he was one to relish the moment. And now was a time to relish. And plus, he just saw Kel throwing a snowball... Right? He attempted to build a snow wall, peeking up over it and waving to Kel, then continued building it. Though, he would probably do better just running and dodging...

Arcturus ran out from behind cover, roaring with laughter. He got Kel with another snowball on his way past, running out into the open on his way to a nearby stand of trees. As he ran across the open ground, he almost fell over another first year who appeared to be digging into a mini-trench. As far as Arcturus was concerned, that constituted all-out war. He, therefore, immediately pegged him with a snowball, zigzagging off to a place equidistant from his two nemeses.

Stevie was pegged with snow, and simply stayed silent. Obviously, he was playing possum. But, still breathing and the only evidence a snowball, Stevie obviously wasn't dead. He was hoping to at least draw Kel in...

Kel grabbed another handful of snow, having seen Arcturus plonk some poor, unsuspecting. . . was that Stevie? Kel threw caution to the winds and ran over to Stevie, dropping down beside him. "I say we team up, what d'you think?" she asked breathlessly, shoving more snow up onto their defenses.

Arcturus spotted Kel running toward some poor first year. He whizzed a snowball off at her in passing. He watched with curiosity as she dived behind the low hummock of snow he had already managed to put up, expecting to see snow flying as the two duked it out. There was none. Then he realized the terrible truth. They were ganging up on him!! The cowards . . . .
He retreated up the hill they were on, attempting to get a better shot over their makeshift wall. Further uphill . . . further . . . .
Then it hit him. An evil plan of grandiose proportions. Firing snowballs at random over the barricade to keep the two busy, he began bunching all the snow he could find together.

Kel snuck a peek over their growing ramparts, and saw a large lump of snow. She was confused for about three nanoseconds until she saw a snowball fly out from behind the snow, and then the snow moved together a bit. She was confused for about five more nanoseconds, then it hit her. Well, okay, not really, but she did start piling snow onto the small walls they had. They were situated by a good-sized rock, and she pulled the snow that had piled up in front of it into the small hill of snow she and Stevie were laying behind, then started forming curving walls around the rock so that there was a hollow in the lee side of the rock.
She nudged Stevie. "Look," she whispered, gesturing toward the lump of snow, which was randomly chucking snowballs in their general direction every so often. "I think he's trying to either make a wall or a bomb, and I don't want to know which one it is. Help me build up the wall." She continued working on the wall, using the easy-to-pack snow to form snowballs as well. She wanted to be prepared when the attack came.

Arcturus cackled in a slightly demented, vaguely evil way.
At last, my plan is working to perfection! Muahahahaha!!!
Whoa, that was weird . . .
Shaking his head of these irritating voices, he started to push his now five-foot diameter snowball down the hill, slowly gaining velocity and mass as it picked up the easily packable snow. He cackled again as he watched it make it's unstoppable progress down the hill.
OK, I really have to stop cackling.

"I'd say run. Now." He said, bouncing up and running for his life. He scooped up some snow, and charged at Arcturus. Launching them, he spun, scooped up more snow, and launched it again. He was making a sweep to Arc's right side, and he silently hoped Kel might go to the left side. That might work. Or Stevie could just try dodging everything.

After rolling his FortBuster 3000 down the hill, Arcturus stood ready with three snowballs in his left hand for extra ammo, and one in his right hand ready to throw. The first one to poke his head around the barricade was the Gryffindor first year. His eyes widened and he started running out of the base like his life depended on it. Which, from the size of the snowball bearing down on their base, it just might. As soon as he started running, Arcturus pegged him, but then it got harder. The firstie started charging, clearly hoping Kel would back him up. He zinged another snowball at him. Miss. He ran to the right, getting closer to their base. He wanted to whop Kel good when she came out of the base.

"My sentiments exactly."
Kel broke and ran, dodging and weaving with three snowballs in her hands. She saw Stevie going right, so went wide left as the huge ball of snow rumbled down the hill toward their one-time fort. She ran, then suddenly dropped, hoping not to be hit. She popped back up again, ran, weaved, dropped, crawled a ways to the right, then jumped up and ran screaming bloody murder up the hill.

Arcturus laughed evilly as Kel broke cover. He whopped her a good one upside the head, before she started a crazy dodge-and-weave routine.
Then, another excellent idea entered his dastardly brain. He cackled.
What is it with me and cackling?
Dropping all his snowballs for maximum speed, he sprinted down the hill. He just hoped he didn't fall down. He was coming dangerously close to losing control of his wild downhill sprint. Finally leveling out, he threw himself at approximately Mach 3 into the side of his FortBuster3000. It disappeared in an explosion of snow only a couple feet from their fort. Arcturus was nowhere to be seen.
Behind the walls of their fort, a snow-covered Arcturus cackled and built up his defenses, peeking out at the firsties.
I really need to stop this whole cackling thing.

Fay was late, she knew. She had spent too much time trying to find her winter coat, and her boots had been nowhere to be found. She had lost one mitten, and had only just found her hat. She accio'd her coat, from wherever it had been hiding, and did the same for her boots.
As she ran out of the castle to join her peers, she dug one hand into a pocket and came out with her missing mitten. She was now fully prepared for a romp in the snow.
She slowed to a cautious walk, and slunk back behind a tree to survey the situation. It seemed Keladry and a Gryffindor first year were fighting against Arcturus, the Ravenclaw boy. It only seemed natural that she should then join Arcturus in his plight against the firsties.
Noticing Arcturus running down the hill, she decided to follow close after, before the other two could see her. With a cry and a run she made her way over to where Arcturus had jumped, behind his fort.
As she toppled over, she let out an exasperated breath and greeted her fellow snowball fighter. "Sorry I'm late, Arcturus! Better late than never, no?"
She grinned, and continued. "Looks like you have things under control, though; is there anything I can do?"
