A quiet and windless morning seemed granted, as a kind of late Christmas present, to the tall Transfiguration Professor who had risen early. He walked across the snow covered frozen lake, and stuck out from the view like a piece of charcoal on a pure white tapestry. Orynn's dark purple cloak waved slightly behind him, but did not thrash violently as there was no wind this day. There was not even a snow flake to fall in the way of the deputy, who walked fiercely towards the center of the lake.
The winter holidays was upon Hogwarts, and coupled with it was silence, which was something Orynn could not ask more of these days. Most of the students were away with family, as were some of the staff members as well. So, the hallways were at peace, and the grounds remained undisturbed for the most part. he was counting on nobody being awake for the time being. Not that what he was about to do was wrong, but witnesses were definately not invited.
With each new snowfall, there were no footsteps to follow that mucked it up. Except for today, this morning, there was a trail of Orynn's footsteps leading right to the center of the lake where he had finally stopped.
It had been sometime now since Orynn was by himself. With his papers all corrected and mid-term grades submitted, it was the hour for self-reflection, analysis, and rigorous fine-tuning.
Orynn did not slip as he walked because of a charm he had cast on his boots. Which were the same color as the rest of him, which was very much out of character for the deputy. So much so most onlookers who knew him may wonder who he was at first. For the white-haired man had dressed in colors to match such, without exception. Pure white jeans, with a white collared t-shirt and leather gloves. It was almost a wonder the professor did not freeze, as it was at least a few degrees under the freezing temperature.
Orynn had finally stopped, and each time he exhaled his breath would dissipate in front of him. As if he were waiting for something. Orynn finally produced a hand mirror from his back pocket, and his wand from his sleeve. With a wave of his wand, the snow on the ice blew away. It left a circle with a radius of about five meters clear of snow on the ice. Orynn then tossed the mirror to the ground and pointed his mirror at it, glaring at his reflection as if he wanted to carve into it with his gaze.
"Alacritas Pondero!" A large boom resounded through the area as a silver spark sped and smacked into the mirror, sending it skidding across the ice another foot or two away from the wizard. Before Orynn's very eyes, his own self crawled out of the small mirror. His double was his complete identical, and almost no difference could be told. As it shook his head, as if having just woken up, it turned to face Orynn. There was perhaps one difference between the two. Whereas the Deputy almost rarely smiled, his double appeared to have one plastered to his face... and evil an menacing grin. The Doppelganger whipped a wand out a swished it towards Orynn offensively.
"You!"
"Me." Orynn responded as he put his weight onto his back foot and poised his wand to defend himself. A moment passed as both creator and clone did nothing, and then the wand in Orynn's hand flicked ever so slightly and the mirror flew into his hand even as the Doppelganger flung his hand out to grab and miss it.
Orynn pocketed the mirror into his back pocket and the Doppelganger chuckled.
"For safe keeping I see. Don't want me out and about causing havoc now do we?" He teased.
"I might doubt my enemies from time to time, but I will surely not doubt myself." Orynn said as he unclasped his cloak and threw it to the side with one hand.
"Wise man." The duplicate chuckled once more, casting off his cloak as well.
Now both men, looking as if they were twins, stared at each other. Shifting their weight from one foot to the other constantly and in sync so that they really did look like they had the same mind. Then finally;
"Immobulus!" A purple rocket shot from the double's wand at Orynn. The deputy side stepped and shot an invisible spell... downwards?
"Res Rei Verto" And Orynn was off without another word, having transfigured his boots into skates, which also ended the non-slip charm he had placed on them before. Orynn was bolting to the other end of the lake, but the time he was attempting to buy was cut short as a lighting bolt cracked ahead of him and to his right.
The Doppelganger had casted the same spell and was now in full pursuit of the man he was fashioned after. From his wand shot streaks of lightning which Orynn zig-zagged to avoid. One turn too sharp and Orynn found himself on bended knee staring up at his opponent, with a maniacal grin on his face. Orynn straightened his back and thrust out his wand.
"Defenestratus!" Orynn shouted, and a large curling wind came down in front of him and swopped up his double from the ice, arms and legs flailing. Some snow from the ice was picked up along with it allowed one to see the strong winds and how they looked like enormous hands playing with a toy they'd found.
As Orynn stood up, but his expression remained cold. Maybe he was right not to celebrate, for his clone had melted into an all too familiar smoke, and was speeding towards him. Orynn himself melted into the gaseous state and shot upwards to avoid the oncoming self. Both smoke figures reverted to human shape back on the ice, shouting spells one after the other.
"Intorqueo Sero!" Four vines snaked out of the double's wand, and snapped towards Orynn to wrap him tightly.
{OOC: Those spells with a *, are made up. I will propose them to be added ASAP}
"Congelare!*" The vines stopped in the tracks as the invisible spell hit them. The paled quickly as icicles grew upon them and reached further and further down until the vegetation just stopped. This did not stop the doppelganger as he broke his wand from the vines and quickly casted another spell.
"Reducto!" The frozen vines shattered into chunks and pieces and flew towards their original target.
"Protego!" Some of the first pieces of ice bounced off the Deputy's shield, but the charm was not strong enough. A shard of ice sliced into the man's neck as it whizzed buy, another heavy piece collided with his left shoulder. The Deputy bent over as he covered his hand over his neck to stop the bleeding. Knowing too well that as he did so, he left way too much of an opening.
"Levicorpus!" The familiar feeling of being plucked by the feet and swung up into the air came over Orynn. His double cackled as if came up to his floating body and sent his wand ripping through his shirt, letting the garment fall onto the snow below it's owner.
"Uncomfortable yet, Master?" He said condescendingly.
Orynn ignored him, though he was extremely uncomfortable being bare. He tried to focus on blocking out the pain. He knew more would be coming, he had to be ready. As if by cue, the haunting chuckle of his double halted with the enunciation of another spell.
"Crucio!" Orynn let out a scream before clamping his jaw shut and crunching his eyes closed. Wiggling in mid air Orynn felt the intense pain, as if marble sized-balls with spikes were carving across his body on the inside everywhere. Orynn barely felt the mirror fall from his pocket, and clunk onto the ice intact. The Doppelganger noticed as well, but was having too much fun. He lifted the curse from his creator, but kept him suspended in the air. With a twitch of the wand's tip, the writhing Deputy levitated higher into the air.
"Now that you're finally out of the way, nothing will stop me." The menace cackled as the Professor was levitated nearly twenty-five meters from the surface of the frozen lake, still masking his pain and refusing to yell. "Enjoy the fall, Deputy! Ha!" With that the Doppelganger let loose his spells and the Deputy immediately began to plummet.
"Bombarda Maxima!" The spell shot like a bullet behind a billow of smoke and landed at the feet of the Doppelganger. The ground from which he stood gave way and he fell through the cracks of ice, his wand still clutched tightly in his lifeless looking hands. The doppelganger clutched onto the edge, his wet sopping was heavy as it lay flat on his head. His breath was plainly visible as he exhaled and stared venomously at his opponent, who sat on his knees with the mirror in hand.
The Doppelganger lurched himself out of the pit and and thrust his wand at Orynn, chattering uncontrollably and therefore unable to speak the incantation. A purple and orange ball of ignited flame shot towards the Transfiguration Professor, who seemed to catch the spell whit his arms crossed. Orynn seemed to be pushing hard against the projected spell, and his knees even inched further away from his opponent as if he really was pushing against an invisible wall. The Doppelganger shot more spells at Orynn, each one forcing him back a bit more but none of them actually making contact. Orynn was visibly sweating as the beads ran down his face and neck. Every muscle visible was flexed, and Orynn bare chest was heaving up and down with every heavy breath he took.
Finally the Professor let out a scream as he redirected the collected sphere of spells downwards towards the ice. The result was a visible force of wind which streamed towards the Doppelganger and picked him up violently into gusts and wrapping streams of snow. Tossing him around and around, Orynn's palms pointed towards the air borne reflecting as he tried to break free. Orynn clenched his palms closed, letting out an audible grunt as the ball of wind and snow cracked loudly and grew heavier and heavier 'til it hit the ground. A large sphere of solid ice, with the doppelganger trapped inside, now rested on the snow-covered banks of the lake.
Orynn stood up, spun on his heal and made a slashing motion towards the over-sized frozen marble. Letting out another grunt, the sound from the man was follow by a "shink," like that of an ax being sharpened. The sphere cracked against itself, as the top half slid and fell off of the bottom half, severing the doppelganger's body in the process.
The body of the double, which could barely be seen in through the thick magical ice, dissipated. When Orynn looked again at the mirror he held, it was cracked and irreparable. The man sighed deeply, as he summoned his cloak in hand and wrapped his naked upper half in it. He exhaled again, as he let the rising sun beat on him and warm his body. He would be heading back inside the castle soon, he just needed to catch his breath first.
