"Last night was scary, to say the least." he said, eyes widening in remembrance of the night's activities. "Glad to see you out and about, though"
"Erm, sir, maybe it wouldn't be such a good idea for you to speak with my father. I wasn't supposed to discuss this with anyone..."

"I suppose it wouldn't be smart. But what's smarter; him being allowed to do this unchecked, or for me to confront him to see if it could stop?" Nicholas said simply.
There were a few moments of silnce before he spoke again. "It's your call, Donall. I won't if you say so, but if he continues, I'll have no choice but to do something."
The distraction of Donall's plight seemed to ease his mind from his own worries, though.

"It doesn't have to continue. I could run away, never go home again. Anything, just... I don't want to be his puppet!" As he finished his sentence, Don's voice grew a little louder, a bit more passionate. "I just want to be me for once!"
"Sir, I don't want to go back there... I'll stay in the castle, even if it means spending the summer with you and you Gryffindor spawn." Though he spoke in a serious tone, the last bit brought a tugging smile at his lips. He didn't let it turn into a full smile, though. It just wasn't the time for that.

Nicholas turned to Donall and gave him an evaluatory look. Gently he placed his hand on Donallès shoulder and smiled.
"Remember that Donall. Remember what you said, about just being you. You can't simply run away. Running away from your troubles just means they'll catch up to you later. You want to be your own person, than do so, and face your father. You can't be yourself if you run in fear of him. You'll never live fully." Nicholas said, somewhat sagely. "I had to face my own problems when I was about your age, when my father died. I tried to run away from it, froim my responsibilities, from the pain, but in the end there was no escape; it had to be faced. It worked out for the better in the end."

"...I can't face him alone." he said, quietly. "I just can't."
Looking up at the professor, Don let a small sigh and continued. "So what do we do?" The knight had finally broken through to the boy; the use of the word 'we' was something that had very rarely occured in Donall's everyday vocabulary.

"Then we face him together. You do all the talking. I'll stand in the background and look intimidating." Nicholas answered, quasi-seriously; the mock scowl he managed to put on his face, and crossing his arms over his chest did have a bit of the desired effect. He couldn't hold it for long before he started to laugh.

Donall laughed, too, for the first time in months. He knew that somehow everything would work out alright; it was just a matter of getting to that point.
"Thank you, Sir." he said, with a genuine smile, "Thank you."

" No need to thank me, Donall. It's my sworn duty to do so; never abandon a friend, ally, or noble cause and protect the innocent. I am a knight after all." Nicholas responded matter-of-factly, the words he quoted flowing from his mouth with natural ease. " Now, about this summer training of yours..." he continued, walking down the hall again, trying to alleviate Donall's humour some more. He always knew there was a good wizard in there. Nicholas couldn't help but smile that he'd finally gotten through to the young man. ((We can end it there, if you'd like ))
