Kel was glad that Stevie seemed to understand. Since there weren't a lot of people she could explain to, she didn't have a lot of experience, and when she had tried before, the slightly snobby Pureblood she was explaining it to just thought that they talked to each other. But it was more than that. She and Tiria actually shared thoughts. Kel had been slightly surprised that Tiria had such interesting thoughts, since she had thought that animals just thought about food and stuff, though she supposed it was different with magical ones.
Kel watched the prairie dog come right up close to Tiria. The purple eyed cat raised her coal-black head and sniffed the prairie dog once, then stared it straight in it's little eyes.

Kel watched the prairie dog, too, answering Stevie without taking her eyes off the curious little creature. "No, she can't talk. But since she's my Familiar, and I rescued her and all, we can talk through our heads. Like, if she thinks I'm in trouble, she can ask me, and I can answer. It's like telepathy, I guess you could say. But it's different. Magical." Kel didn't know if that made a lot of sense, and she took her eyes off the advancing animal to look at Stevie.

"Well, I believe it's cat, if that's what you mean," Kel told him, laughing. "I don't know what kind of cat, though. I actually found her in a river as a kitten, so I don't even know where she came from, though she could tell me if she wanted, since she's half a magical creature." Kel elaborated.

((That was kinda short))
Kel smiled again at the prairie dog, then remembered her own pet. The half-Kneazle had prowled around, sniffing at everything, then hopped up on the couch-like seat Kel was laying on, curling up next to her human.
Kel reached down and petted her while introducing her to the boy and his Familiar. "I forgot! This is my half-Kneazle, Tiria. She can be a bit touchy at first, but once she's checked you out and made sure you're to be trusted, she's a real kitten."

Kel grinned happily at the prairie dog, still a little startled that it had climbed up on her without a second thought like that. "Floyd. What a perfect name for the little fellow!" Kel said, half to herself, half to Stevie. She watched Stevie's fingers as they held and released and strummed on the guitar's strings, and marveled at the wonderful music they were eliciting from the instrument.
Without taking her eyes off Stevie's fingers, she started drawing again, this time a woman dancing, her arms up in the air, graceful fingers seeming to be waving, eyes closed, with a blissful look on her face. Her dress spun around her, brushing up pine needles that were scattered beneath her feet, her long hair swishing behind her, crowned by beautiful flowers.

Kel beamed at the compliment. "Thank you! I just like to sketch my feelings." She was a bit sad when the meandering song ended, but she smiled at the prairie dog that was staring at her.
"Oh, okay. What's his name? Or is it a girl?" Kel said in reply, slowly stretching out her fingers for the small animal to sniff.

Kel sighed as the last chord thrummed through the trolley.
She smiled as she heard the little prairie dog keep chirping, then her eyes widened as Stevie stated playing along with it. She thought it was amazing how he could just start playing anything, and make it sound good, too!
In answer to his question, she picked up the book and showed the picture to him without hesitating.

Kel listened, entranced with the wonderful, joyful song. She sketched as she listened, just letting her feelings out on the paper.
"Oh, yes! It's really catchy and cheerful!" Kel told him when he asked. She glanced down at her paper. She had drawn a large rosebush with fairies holding a party around it. They were eating cake out of acorn caps while sitting at mushroom tables, wearing the rose petals as hula skirts.

"Not at all! You play really good." Kel told him, smiling. She began the process of 'settling in'. She kicked off her shoes, pulled a pillow and fleece blanket out of her bag and took off the sweater her mom had made her wear, first liberating her wand from the small pocket in the sleeve, tucking it behind her ear. Then she set up a nest on the seat, with her bag on the table beside her. Kel rummaged in her bag, pulling random things out, then throwing them back in. Finally, she pulled out a leather-bound journal and started doodling with a pencil she produced from an inner pocket of the Muggle jeans she was wearing.

Kel, noticing his hopeful look, plopped herself down on the seat across from Stevie. "My name's Keladry Lindenshield, but all my friends call me Kel." Kel told her eager classmate with grin. She hoped he took the hint about how 'friends' called her Kel.
Kel was about to ask him to play another song when she remembered her abandoned bag, sitting on the floor outside the door where she had dropped it as she listened to his wonderful playing. She jumped up and grabbed it, then tossed it onto the seat next to where she had sat down. "If you don't mind, I'll just settle myself in." Kel told Stevie with another smile.

Keladry pushed the door open and poked her head in, expecting to see a fifth-year or older student, but when all she saw was a boy her age with a prairie dog perched on the tabletop in front of him. She was so astonished, she came all the way into the compartment and listened to his song. She moved her feet slightly when she felt her Kneazle, Tiria, nudging them, wanting to get in and scout the place out.
Tiria was very devoted to Kel, and wanted to make sure the compartment was safe for her human.

((Love the hints about wanting someone (a fellow first year, as you said) to join you. Here goes!))
Kel had already been escorted through the barrier between Platform 9 3/4 by her parents, and was currently looking for a place to sit. She headed toward a compartment that had faint music coming out of it. Kel cocked her head a ways down the hall to listen. It sounded like a guitar, but the person playing it was obviously extremely good at it. Kel didn't fancy the idea of sitting with an older student; she would much rather sit with other first-years, or a second year, if it came to that. But since there really wasn't anywhere else to sit, she padded to the door and knocked, hoping the guitarist would be able to hear her over his playing.
Kel was still listening quite avidly to the lovely (if slightly muffled) sounds coming out of the train compartment. She thought she could hear a faint chirping noise that seemed to be keeping time with the music! Kel pondered over this. . .

Kel reached into her Muggle jeans, pulling out a coin purse, then counted out seven large gold coins onto the counter. "Thank you so much, Mr. Ollivander!" Kel thanked him, grinning.

Kel beamed at Mr. Ollivander, his attempts to show her how important her wand was not lost on her bright mind.
"My name is Keladry Brianna Lindenshield." Kel informed him, still smiling. She memorized the intricacies of her wand, imprinting the words 'Cedar, with shavings of a Unicorn's hoof core' in her mind, in a safe place where she wouldn't accidentally misplace the information.
Just then, there was a tap on the window of the shop, and Kel spun around. Her mother and father were standing outside the window, smiling at her. Kel waved at them, then turned back to Mr. Ollivander at his place behind the till.

Kel picked up the wand, swishing it gently through the air. The width fit her hand perfectly, the slender wooden wand feeling like an extension of her own body, or soul. It felt like a part of her.
As her hand came down, multi-hued sparks drifted from the pale end of the long shaft. The sparks, instead of sinking to the ground, floated and danced in the air, reflecting-or maybe creating-slivers of light that danced around the dim shop, glinting off Kel's hair, creating a halo of colorful light around her.
Kel, beaming radiantly, turned to Mr. Ollivander.
"After this wand, I don't think any other one would ever do." Kel told him, still smiling after the display she had created.
((If you could give me the information on this wand, then I'll put it in my Sorting application/finalized profile, with a note saying I've changed it, of course. Though I don't think it'll affect the outcome. At least, I hope not. . . but if you could do that, it'd be wonderful.))
