Kel was enraptured, occasionally sipping her hot chocolate, but mostly forgetting to as she listened to Nick's tale.

Seemingly somewhat abashed, he scratched his cheek as he winced a bit.
"There I was in the hallway, looking into the living room wondering where the blazes they were when I hear the toilet flush from the door down the hallway. I still want to beat myself over the head whenever I think how I just walked right by one of them and didn't even think of it. Next thing you know, he comes out of the washroom as soon as one of the others comes back into the living room with a sandwhich. One walks out of the washroom looking right at me, and the one with half a sandwhich in his mouth kinda stands there wondering whats going on. Well...we got them, and that's what matters." he said, wrapping up the story as positive as possible, leaving out many of the deatils.

Kel smiled. "That's kind of what happened to me with Arcturus. I mean, how I didn't really know he was there and then he jumped out at me." she explained. "But I'm guessing we had a bit more fun hitting each other with snowballs than you did, walking right in there like that. I doubt I'd ever do that." Kel reflected soberly, slipping into contemplation.

"It's my hope you'll never have to, Lady Lindenshield. I know it's a simple hope, but I like to think that my years of service to the Ministry and with the Auror's was enough to keep a generation safe from harm, or more so than they could have been. I want to make sure my children and other children have a safe place to grow up in. That's why I kept at it for a bit." he said, finally shrugging. "I realized though, I couldn't keep it up, especially after the last incident."
His thumb ran along the edge of the mug as he silently contemplated that painful memory for a few moments before coming back to the present reality and offering a small smile.

Kel listened to Nick with her heart, the brave, truthful words striking into her and sticking. Though she wasn't exactly sure why they seemed so important (she could guess, though), she loved Nick for them. The young student looked up at Nick with awe and wonder in her gaze, then she smiled a totally pure, lovely beaming smile that came straight from her soul. She wanted to show Nick what he's given her, and her heart put its own message in her shining smile.

He looked up briefly from his mug and saw Kel's beaming smile. he returned a small, yet bashful one in return, still not used to the attention. Nick's eyes shyly turned away as he scratched his eyebrow.
"Well, I suppose there's no need to be talking about that. I've recovered and that's all that matters." he said taking a sip from his mug. "I trust things are going well otherwise?"

"Otherwise what?" Kel grinned, then jumped to her feet. "Oh, no! I have to get back to the common room! I have to grab my stuff and get to Transfiguration class now!" She reached under her chair, grabbing her jacket, scarf and hat, then leaped for the door, screeching to a halt as she was about to yank it open and bound away. She turned back to Nick, blurting "Sorry Nick, but Orynn'll kill me if I'm late. I hope that battle simulation thing will be all set soon!"
Then Kel disappeared out the door, her spirits flying so high she couldn't see them.
