Madame Minka lead the students to the main entrance of the great hall and turned right down a hallway leading past the kitchens. At the end of the hall hung a large still life painting of fruit. The portrait was silent, as fruit usually is. Minka looked to the portrait and uttered the simple word 'dormouse' and the portrait slid aside revealing a long rounded tunnel light by torches.
She turned to face the students,
"Pleaze stay close first yearz, and everyone stay together."
The mass of Hufflepuffs followed her down the long tunnel until they reached the common room.
The common room was round, much like everything else about the Hufflepuff quarters. It was furnished by many plump armchairs and soft couches arranged by a roaring warm fire in the fireplace. The decor, everything from the curtains to the carpets were decorated with house colors, mostly yellows. Only one word could be used to describe the Hufflepuff students quarters, and that is cozy.
Two more corridors branched off from the common room, one lead to the girls dormitories and washrooms and the other to the boys dormitories and washrooms. Each door to the dorms were like barrels, wooden and perfectly round with a brass knob in the middle of all of them.
Minka took a place at the middle of the common room, as the students gathered round. The professor spoke with an Eastern European accent.
"Hello all, and velcome to Hogwarts, I am Madame Minka Davinmir, your head of house and Divinations Professor. I hope that you vill find it comfortable here in your quarters. Zey are certainly nicer than what I had at Drumstrag, so you can be thankful for that... My office is on 7th floor in North Tower, should you need me for anything, my office is usually open. Also, pleaze feel free to speak with older students in your house as well as the Prefects if you have any qwvestions at all, about anythink. They share your dorms and common room with you, thus they will be closer to find than me most likely."
As Minka spoke to the students, a large and jolly looking apparition took form behind the professor. He wore the robes of a monk. The ghost chuckled.
"Hello, fellow Hufflepuffs, I hope you enjoy your stay at Hogwarts!"
Some of the first year students were frighted to see the Fat Friar appear out of thin air and some were even so frighted to have back away. The ghost had equally startled Minka and turned to see who was interrupting her speech.
"Oh my, who are you?-" The professor was just as surprised as some of the students, some of the 6th and 7th years laughed.
"It's the Fat Friar, Madame, he won't bite. He's actually quite friendly and helpful." Said one of the older students.
"That's right, Madame, I'm here to welcome all of you to the school and help you find your way around." Said the ghost.
"Oh good, helping hand iz always useful, I'm sure the first years would appreciate that. Vell, now that ve're introduced, you may get yourselves settled in. I'll be staying here for a little while to have some tea, if you have anything to ask me, now is time."
The professor flopped down into a plump armchair, beside it a teacart with sufficient tea and tea cups for the students who wished to stay for tea in the common room.
