The Deputy Headmaster was in his classroom much earlier than necessary. In fact he was enjoying some tea in front of the fire place at the back of the classroom. The chair in which he sat was a very dark shade of green, and glowed in a way when absorbing the light from the first.
Orynn had a book rested on one knee and a mug of tea in his head that he rested on the arm of the chair. He sipped at it every so often, not expecting students to come for some time.

Dónall arrived to class a few moments early, for he had been in the library reading a book, rather than in his preivous class, learning.
As he walked into the Transfiguration classroom he noticed that he was not the only person who had decided to be early that day.
"Professor." he said, with a curt nod in the man's direction. Not wanting to disturb the relaxing man, Don simply sat at his desk, waiting for the students to start trickling in. He busied himself with a quill and parchment from his carry-on bag.

Orynn peered over the top of his book. Staring at the student who walked in.
"Excellent, Mr. Kennedy." Orynn said as he shut his book and sat up with his tea still in hand. He walked over to his podium and set his item down, looking down to his student.
"Had there been anything you wanted to speak to me about?" Orynn thought to ask this due to the students behavior a number of classes ago. Regarding the time, it probably had something to do with the 'ceremonial' duel.

Dónall almost smiled as the professor Novim realized he was sitting there. Almost.
"Yes, sir, I wished to speak to you regarding the duel. Despite the fact that you didn't quite beat that Gryffie, I just wanted you to know that I... well I'm sure the rest of Slytherin House as well... I think if given the chance you could've won that duel. You are truly a master of Transfiguration..."
He paused, feeling a little awkward with the words that had come out of his mouth. Was that admiration? And a hint of emotion? It couldn't be...
"Err, glad to see you're doin' alright."

Although there was no obvious indication of this, Orynn's ego swelled at the words from his student. There may have been a small smile forming out of the corner of Orynn's lips, but if it had been there it was gone in the next moment. He nodded towards Donall. "Thank you Mr. Kennedy. It's good of you to say so." Orynn grabbed his cane which he had inconspicuously hidden behind the podium. He used it to walk closer to Mr. Kennedy, staring down at him as he was in his seat. "Tell me Donall. Out of curiosity, what is it do you plan to do after Hogwarts." Although asked out of curiosity, the Deputy's tone was very stern.

Dónall looked up at his Head of House, and answered in earnest. "Well, sir, I don't know exactly what it is that I really want to do. My father wants me to take on the family business, but I have no interest in doing so. Aside from that, I was fancying maybe a job with the ministry, as a curse breaker or something of the sort."
He maintained eye contact. "I suppose I still have some time to figure all that out."

"Indeed, you do. Orynn said in mild reassurance. "If you ever do feel the need to discuss it a bit more, then I'm sure you know where to find me."
He downed the rest of his tea as some more students began to to arrive. He'd wait a couple of minutes more before beginning his lecture.

Don was mildly uncomfortable. He wasn't used to discussing personal matters with anyone, let alone his Head of House. But he knew that if he was ever going to discusss uch things with someone it would be the stone cold Slytherin Head, because he knew he would get straight out truth; nothing would be sugarcoated for him.
"Alright, thank you, professor." he replied quietly. He then turned back to his parchment and quill and occupied himself until the arrival of the last few students.

The last couple of students filled into the Transfiguration room. Orynn lifted his cane up, bringing it down to hit the stone floor. The sound echoed throughout the room, startling one or two students. The result of the cane-tapping was the booming sound of the class room door closing, and sealing shut.
"Elemental Transfiguration." He said out loud. "The manipulation of mother nature's minions is a very arduous task, but with the benefits unlike which your mind can ever hope to imagine. At least, for now."
Orynn turned on his heel and a few steps away from the students, raising his cane into the air. Fire-y red letters billowed from the tip of it, to form the words "Elemental Transfiguration" in the air for all to see. He turned on his heal and turned back to the students.
"Would someone like to take a gander at what are the elements in which witches and wizards can Transfigure."

Attempting to be cheeky, Dónall simply said aloud, "All of them." This, of course, got some snickers and laughs from his House mates, and looks from the rest of the class.
However, for the first time, Don didn't really feel anything when he did it. His heart wasn't in his comment; he did it simply because that was what was expected from him by his House.

The Deputy's gaze lowered to the older Slytherin student. His eyes slitted in a disapproving glare.
"Do you not even know the element associated with your own house?" Orynn was clearly not amused. A Slytherin beside Donall raised his hand, one Hector Davenough.
"Water, Sir."
"Very good."
A student from each then volunteered an answer, each knowing exactly what element was linked to their house. Earth was Hufflepuff, Fire was Gryffindor, and Air was Ravenclaw. Each element's name was now written in fire red and floating up in the air for all to see.

Dónall wasn't proud of himself at that moment. Especially since his Head of House was not at all amused by his antics.
He lowered his gaze to his parchment and copied down the answers his fellow classmates gave out, and stayed quiet for a little bit.

With all the elements now known to his students. There was one thing left to do before the practical session.
"Well then now, there's only one last thing to define. What incantation will you use to perform this Transfiguration spell. In other words, would you venture that this is Inanimate Transfiguration, Animate, or something altogether very different."
Trick question? Maybe...

On a more serious note, Donall decided to answer this question properly. He was pretty sure as to what the answer may be, but he knew better than to be so confident in an answer for this class. The professor was known for trick questions.
He said in a clear voice, "Elements themselves are animate things, always moving and changing. Would it be safe to say that this is an Animate Transfiguration?"

"Exactly correct, Mr. Kennedy."
Orynn looked at the time, and was disappointed to see that it had flown by.
"Class dismissed. We will practice Elemental Transfiguration next time. Good day."
