Care of Magical Creatures Years 1&2 Week 2

[Shellivia Nos Taronin]

The grove looked exactly like it had last class, only this time, in the paddock instead of the Augurey nests, there were two trees that were both potted in large 6 foot wide clay pots.
Shellivia was walking around the grove, tending to the plants once again and her squirrel was no where to be seen.

[Lilianne Wesker]

Lilianne got to the grove early. Care of Magical Creatures was definately a subject meant for her, and one she wouldn't feel nervous in. She wondered what they'd be studying this time.

"Hello, Professor Taronin!" she waved, looking around trying to find if she could see any creature around, or at least the adorable Squirrel.

[Shellivia Nos Taronin]

Shellivia smiled and nodded to the student.
"Good day to you, Ms. Wesker. How have you been?"
She left the vines that she had been braiding and trotted over to the student.

[Lilianne Wesker]

"Not too bad, Professor. I'm starting to learn some spells, but it's not so easy. I'm better off with theory... I'm nervous with the real thing. Professor Lannsman's been very encouraging, though."

Lilianne suddenly looked embarassed. Why was she advertising her own weaknesses?

"Hum... How have you been, Professor? And how are Atemisius and Nephessta?"

[Stevie Copeland]

Stevie bounded into class, excited. He loved the class last time, and even got five house points for Gryffindor. How awesome could that be? How much more awesome could it get? And on top of that, he wasn't late. He hadn't been late once yet. He took pride in that.

"Hello!" He said, being the normal oblivious Stevie and not noticing that Shellivia was talking to someone. He set his things down where he set them before and walked to the place he was told to be last class.

Shellivia smiled.
"Oh, they're just fine. I moved them back into their territory after class; they seemed almost sad, I swear they just adore the attention."
she looked up at Stevie as he bounded into class.
That boy must be part squirrel, she thought to herself.
"Good day, Mr. Copeland. Having a good day so far?"

Various other students began to trickle into class and a few of them lined up along the edge of the paddock and looked at the trees with some curiosity, wondering why they were there.
"Everyone please get a spot around the wall please," she said, motioning them towards the paddock. "Once everyone is here, we'll start class."

A squirrel came down out of one of the trees and ran past a few students before he jumped onto Shellivia's back then shoulder and seemed to be whispering something in her ear. She listened and nodded to him, giving him a peanut.

[Stevie Copeland]

"Great!" He stopped bounding and stood where she showed the class. He loved it here so far, he would definitely have a good time here. He waved at Lilianne, waiting for class to being.

[Lilianne Wesker]

Lilianne waved back at Stevie and moved to stand next to him along the wall.

"Hi! You're looking quite cheerful today. I can't wait to see what creature we'll be learning about..."

[Stevie Copeland]

"I'm cheerful most of the time." He replied. It was really optimism for... Pretty much everything here. He wanted to learn it all, but he knew he could not. Still, he was cheerfully optimistic.

[Shellivia Nos Taronin]

Shelly waited as the last of the students trickled in.
"Alright everyone, class has started. You\re not going to need any quills or parchment right away, so leave your bags on the benches."
She waited while the students deposited their sacks and then cleared her throat.
"Today we're going to be studying the Bowtruckle. Now can anyone give me any information on them?" A few students muttered amongst themselves before one pipped up.
"They're bugs right? And they live in trees."
Shellivia nodded slightly.
"They do live in trees, but they aren't exactly insects. Anyone else?"

[Lilianne Wesker]

Lilianne raised her hand, hopping slightly in place.

"They're tree-guardians! They're not bugs, they look like little stick-people!"

Care of Magical Creatures was definately a subject where Lilianne could feel smart for a change, with all the books she had read on animals and magical creatures.

[Shellivia Nos Taronin]

"Excellent! Five points for Gryffindor." Shellivia beamed.
"Ms. Wesker is right; they are tree guardians and they resemble sticks. They are very protective of their trees, and have been known to attack people trying to harm it's home. Now, does anyone know how to calm a Bowtruckle?"
She looked around expectantly, hoping someone would answer.

Lilianne knew the answer, but she waited to see if anyone else would answer. She was beaming at having won her house points, but she didn't want to come out as a know it all...

She stood there fidgeting a little as the other students were wracking their brains.

[Keladry Lindenshield]

Kel had finally found her way to the Care of Magical Creatures class area. She hadn't made it last time, and this time it had been quite laborious to find her way to the grove where class was held. The Hufflepuff walked into the grove, quickly picking a spot near the back of the group of students.

"I'm sorry, professor." Kel said apologetically, not knowing what the centaur's name was. "I got a bit lost on my way here."

[Shellivia Nos Taronin]

Shellivia nodded to the student and motioned to the benches.
"Please leave you things on one of the benches Ms. Lindenshield, I believe, then take up a place along the wall here."
She turned back to the other students. When no one gave her an answer she continued.
"Normally an offering of woodlice is enough to calm a Bowtruckle. Wizards looking for wand wood normally carry a small pouch of it when they go hunting."
She moved to the gate and motioned at the two trees.
"These two saplings here are both residences to a Bowtruckle. I'm going to lure one out so that you all may see one. Everyone please stay back on this side of the wall until the I say you may enter, otherwise you'll scare it into hiding. Does anyone want to volunteer to lure the other Bowtruckle?"
She looked around waiting for someone to pipe up.
