Orynn exhaled audibly. He laid his white feathered quill onto his piece of parchment. With both hands he lightly threw it towards the Head of Gryffindor House, and it floated softly all the way to stop right in front of him. It even rotated to reveal it's contents to Nicholas.
Yet, said contents were not there. Either Mr. Novim had been writing in clear ink all this time, or the ink had simply vanished just now. Orynn crossed his arms stated that Nicholas should just;
"Write down the term's first password, and that'll be all." Orynn said with a smile that painted him to be quite smug. What he was smug about was entirely non-evident.

Minka looked at Nicholas and the deputy and sensed the tension that you could have cut with a knife. Minka Piped up after Nicholas scrawled the password into Orynn's book. "Uh, Hallo. It'z nice to meet you, Sir Nicholas." Madame even went as far as to curtsy to the knight. Her eyes also deliberately meeting his when she stood back up.

Nicholas took the paper and quill and quickly and precisely jotted down the password in clear and concise handwriting. Walking over o the Deputy, he then gave back both items before turning his attention to Minka. He kept his eyes on hers as he bowed slightly, smiling gently.
"The welcome is easily reciprocated, Madame Davinmir." he answered pleasantly. He turned his attention to Orynn for a moment. "Is there anything else you require of me, Deputy Headmaster?"

Orynn received back his materials, waving his quill over the parchment, allowing the ink from before to reappear. He looked up to Nicholas and responded to his question.
"None." He said bluntly. He then turned to the rest of the Heads, having all three of them within peripheral range. "I must inquire the same of each of you. Are we all aware of our duties, and are there any questions regarding your post and the school term?"
Orynn seemed adamant on communication, more or less. He obviously didn't want to 'fail' in his own post, this term, and thus was eager to make sure every body was on the same page.

Nicholas shook his head. He'd been here long enough to know the ropes, but he cast a quick glance at his new fellow teachers, curious.
His stance eased up somewhat as Orynn offhandedly dismissed him and turned his attention to the others.

"I'm quite well aware of my duties as Head of Ravenclaw, unless something has changed since the documents I received this summer..." Zea shrugged, and ran a hand through her hair. "...Oh, wait. Who are the prefects this year?"

Minka looked at the people at hand, with a confused looked on her face.
"I know Elzbeth made me Head of House Hufflepuff becuase she knew I could do job... Zee truth iz, I'm not quite sure what my duties are zuppozed to be, you see at Durmstag, there were no houses... List of responzibilities would be most helpful."
The gypsy was embarrassed. It was obvious that it wasn't often she had to ask for advice or help, for every time she did it made her feel a bit inferior.

Zea looked at Madame Minka in bewilderment.
"You mean you didn't even come to Hogwarts? I think this is the first time I've ever heard of a Head of House who was never a member of that house. In fact, I didn't even think it was allowed. Curious."
She tilted her head slightly.
"Well, for starters, you are the person in charge of any problems students of your house may have. Major disciplinary issues, emotional support, and the like. You're pretty much the house parent. You're there for guidance, and you have to be open to be a successful Head of House."

"As Heads of Houses, we are their mentors, friends and protectors. We are there to educate them in proper behaviour, lend an ear or hand, and on occasion protect from other students." Nicholas began as he looked to the teachers, his voice forthright with his obvious respect for the post and goodwill towards the students. He continued, caring and paternal in his speech.
"These are the years in which these young wizards and witches will be beginning to shape who they're going to be, what they want to do. It's our job to make sure they have as safe an environment to do so, and know that we have their best interests at heart. We are not simply adults in charge of them, we are here to guide them into the Wizarding world."
He seemed to realize all that he blurted and blushed slightly, nervously tucking a wisp of black hair behind his ear, blushing ever so slightly.
"That's, um...that's my take on it in any case." he added, smiling both charmingly and shy.

"Well, it sums it up rather nicely, Nicholas." Zea grinned.
"You'll have a little help keeping order. Your house will have Prefects, two students each in fifth, sixth, and seventh year, who are chosen for their maturity and because they are trustworthy. They help keep order, and help to mentor the younger students and their peers. They keep an eye on other houses, and inter-house relationships. They are your eyes and ears in the student body, so be open and listen to what they have to say."
"I was a Prefect, but unfortunately, a little too much into mischief to warrant achieving the Head Girl badge."
"Out of the seventh year Prefects, there will be a Head Boy and a Head Girl, who are the leaders. They may not necessarily be of your house, but generally, you can trust them."

Minka was visibly insulted when Zea mentioned "I didn't even think it was allowed", feeling ostracized because she never attended Hogwarts.
"Ah... I understand now... I wasn't aware that you had to come to Hogwarts to have any kind of faculty position... Strange school... Apparently in Britain magic hats dictate what you do with your life. That's a ashamed, if someone tells you that's what you are supposed to be, then that's what you will become, because you believe it so strongly...People change... I am not same person I was 30 years ago. No matter, I was given the job of head of house. I should be proud that I have transcended tradition and that Miss Pierce saw past the hat.
It is much clearer now what I must do... Once classes begin, I shall choose prefects."

Zea frowned. "That's not exactly what I meant. You didn't need to be a Hogwarts student to teach at Hogwarts, but I've never known a Head of House who wasn't a Hogwarts student, who was in that House when they were here. Perhaps I'm wrong about that, though."
"You're given a House by the Sorting Hat because the Hat thinks the House best suits you, that you'd excel there. For example, Ravenclaws are known for their wit and their intelligence. Hufflepuffs, for being loyal and just. The Sorting Hat is more than just a hat, you know. In a way, who you are at Hogwarts will help to shape your future."
"Prefects are chosen before the beginning of the semester... I was under the impression that they were already chosen..."[[Easy code, too. 006699 ]]

"They are."
Orynn had finally spoken up. He had enjoyed this display of knowledge from his heads of houses. They imparted their knowledge and their beliefs, and were firm in them as well. Before this, Orynn had been unsure how the year had been. Now however, though there was no physical indication this, nor would he ever admit it, he was entirely confident in his team.
"Normally they wouldn't have been just yet, as the selection of prefects is greatly influenced by the Heads of Houses. This year, our staff is almost entirely new. So the Headmistress and I took it upon ourselves to appoint prefects. No worries though, you'll be informed who they are before the students arrive, and if you have any objections, they will be taken into consideration."
Orynn was brief, emotionless, and yet not rash and taunt as he is normally. "One more note on the Sorting Hat, Madame Davinmir." he continued. "Although it's duty it's function is to sort students into houses they will excel in most, by tapping into our innermost deepest traits. It will take into consideration the choice of the student whose head it sits upon. As was the case with Harry Potter."
Orynn moved towards the doors of the Great Hall. He had begun writing furiously again with his quill. "If there's nothing else, I must return to my office. There's still a great deal more to do before the children arrive." He stood still for the time being. Waiting for any last minute comments or questions.

Zea nodded, and smiled at the others.
"Let's just make sure to make this year unforgettable, hm?"

Nicholas looked in between the Heads of Houses, and nodded to himself, somewhat. Finally, he smiled and looked to Orynn, his hands clasped behind his back.
"I think this school is in good and capable hands, Deputy Headmaster. If there is any need for assistance, please let me know." he said, his tone losign most of it's frost with Orynn. There even seemed to be a veiled...compliment. He quickly added. "Until then, I believe it would be nice to get to know my compatriots better."
Nicholas bowed to the Deputy Headmaster ever so slightly and awaited the response of the others before doing anything else.
