It was that time of year again, the alley was bustling with activity. Eager vendors, excited children and nervous first years all made their was in and out of shops like crazed creatures. Some were born into the world of witchcraft and wizardry, and scurried about as if it were their second home. Others had looks of wonder and terror, having never fathomed a world as such as they saw before their very eyes now.
Mr. Ollivander was perhaps the best known Shopkeeper in these parts. His wands were the best in the business, at least on this side of the Atlantic. He expected many first year Hogwarts students to walk into his shop this morning, along with a few stragglers from older grades. Wands were magnificent objects, but they were far from snap-proof.
Ollivander leaned on the threshold, and the door that led into his store. He waited patiently, with a wide smile on his face, for his first customer of the day.

Kel hurried down the busy street, looking out for the wand shop she was looking for. She was to go and find the right wand and then wait for her parents to catch up after buying her birthday present. She finally spotted the man standing in the door of his shop standing under a sign saying "Ollivander's wands", and turned off the bustling lane toward him.
"Hello, do you run this wand shop? I'm looking for a wand." Kel asked/greeted him, smiling warmly. She had always been a friendly soul.

The older gentleman looked down to the female youth, with a kind smile across his face.
"Why yes my dear, do come in." Mr Ollivander opened the door, and let young girl walk in before him. Recently accepted student at Hogwarts, he could tell, and was glad to see that she seemed excited about shopping for school supplies.
Ollivander walked briskly to behind the store counter. "Come close my dear. Tell me, how has your day been?"

Kel, always an open person, didn't mind one bit talking to an older person. She immediately started talking.
"Well, sir, to be honest it's been quite busy. I've been shopping since quite early for all my school things, not that I mind; it's so exciting! I've never been here when it's this busy. And I haven't even been here a lot. Usually when my mum needs something really special, she buys it online or something like that, but today we-my mum and dad, that is-came, because my mum says it's something of a tradition. She says you meet some of the students you're going to be going to school with, learn how to interact with other people and other stuff. My mum's always looking out for new experiences like that, and I'm really glad I came today. It's so fun!"
Afraid that she had said too much, but still having lots more to say, Kel looked quizzically at the elderly man.
"Are you sure you want to hear it all? I could go on all day telling you everything I think of." Kel warned him.

"Excellent, my dear. Yes, you've done very well."
Mr. Ollivander said with very much glee. It was impossible to determine if he had even been listening to Keladry.
Still mumbling to himself, he moved towards the back of the store. He stayed within the threshold however, and simply fished out a box that was apparently resting within the wall on the other side. He then returned and placed the box on the counter in front of the youth.
He opened the dull beige box and within it was a wand. About 9 1/2 inches in length, the wood was darker than most wands, but there were flecks of a much lighter color twirled within the wand. The older gentleman stood up straight with a humble look.
"Please, give it a try." He encouraged her.

Kel, a little puzzled at his odd reply, said nothing, merely watching him as he got a wand out of a box.
When he asked her to try it, she had no idea what to do. She came up to him and grasped it carefully in her small hand, giving it an experimental flick. There was a loud bang and Kel jumped, frightened.
She tenderly put the wand down, hoping Mr. Ollivander (since that must be who he was) wouldn't be mad at her. "I'm sorry, sir! I've never used a wand, and I didn't know that would happen!" Kel cried, wondering if he would get mad at her and throw her out. Then she'd have to go all the way to Germany to get one from that other wand maker her mother had told her about.
She glanced up at Mr. Ollivander, frightened.

Mr. Ollivander smiled at the young Hogwarts student. All the while making deductions as to her character, trying as best he could to lead the right wand to this particular student.
"No need to fret my dear. All part of the process." He grinned, not the least bit upset. His eyes rested on Keladry's face, and then seemed to look at something behind her.
The store keeper walked past the young lady, and took out another box, similiar to the previous one. He then spun around, extended his hand, which held the dull gray box out towards Kel. With his other hand he lifted the lid.
This wand was noticeably different than the last. This was a tad bit long, just shy of 10 inches, and had a distinct red hue to it. Mr. Ollivander looked to the wand, and then to the would-be witch.
"Once more..." Mr. Ollivander said encouragingly.

Kel smiled, comforted that this was not unusual, and took the second wand from the smiling gentleman. She swished this one just like the old one, but instead of 'bang'ing, it let off a mournful whistle, and a small Bonsai tree appeared on the long wooden counter.
Kel wondered if that was a good sign, but figuring that the deciding factor in picking a wand was not whether or not a tree appeared when you waved it. 'Though maybe it's different for each person. . .' Kel wondered.
She gave the wand back to Mr. Ollivander, deciding that this wand didn't feel quite right.
((OOC: In my Sorting application, it says that my wand is 11 1/2 inches long, made of oak and has an Essence of Dragon Scale core. Maybe the wand I buy here should be like that, though it doesn't have to. I can always edit it. And I do like the sound of that red one you just gave me to try.))

((OOC: That I leave completely up to you dearie. I can give you the wand described in your profile if you'd like, but I'll have a try at one last random creation of mine.))
"Hmmm..." The store keeper stroked his chin, accepting the wand back from the student. he replaced it into it's box, and put it back where he found it. He then walked back to behind the counter, placing the first wand tested back into it's box, and went to replace it behind the back wall.
Her slowly turned to face Keladry. Chin resting on his hand, and elbow resting in his other hand. His eyes seemed to scrutinize the young lady before him, as if taking all the little details he had gathered thus far. His eyes stayed upon her for a minute it seemed, before his eyes wandered to his left. He reached out with his arm and took down another wand box. This one longer than the previous ones. He brought it closer to him, lifted the lid off and set it down on the counter right next to him. He leaned forward slightly offering his find to the student.
"Better luck this time, I'm fairly certain." The wand within had a hue of red just like the last, but this time it was much paler. It was more pink, and could only really be seen from up close. It was 10 and 3/4 inches in length exactly.

Kel picked up the wand, swishing it gently through the air. The width fit her hand perfectly, the slender wooden wand feeling like an extension of her own body, or soul. It felt like a part of her.
As her hand came down, multi-hued sparks drifted from the pale end of the long shaft. The sparks, instead of sinking to the ground, floated and danced in the air, reflecting-or maybe creating-slivers of light that danced around the dim shop, glinting off Kel's hair, creating a halo of colorful light around her.
Kel, beaming radiantly, turned to Mr. Ollivander.
"After this wand, I don't think any other one would ever do." Kel told him, still smiling after the display she had created.
((If you could give me the information on this wand, then I'll put it in my Sorting application/finalized profile, with a note saying I've changed it, of course. Though I don't think it'll affect the outcome. At least, I hope not. . . but if you could do that, it'd be wonderful.))

Mr. Ollivander beamed at the results of Keladry waving the wand. He swooped up the box that had been the wands home, and then walked over to behind the counter and stood behind the til.
"My dear, your wand is made of Cedar. It's core, is made from the shavings of a Unicorn hoof." The old man said with pride, and tried to impart that same sense of joy onto his customer. "I would say then Ma'am, that the Wizarding World should expect great things from a Witch like yourself." He smiled at her.
Mr. Ollivander took out a piece of parchment from his desk, and a quill. He began to write something down, and then looked up.
"Your name again, my dear?"

Kel beamed at Mr. Ollivander, his attempts to show her how important her wand was not lost on her bright mind.
"My name is Keladry Brianna Lindenshield." Kel informed him, still smiling. She memorized the intricacies of her wand, imprinting the words 'Cedar, with shavings of a Unicorn's hoof core' in her mind, in a safe place where she wouldn't accidentally misplace the information.
Just then, there was a tap on the window of the shop, and Kel spun around. Her mother and father were standing outside the window, smiling at her. Kel waved at them, then turned back to Mr. Ollivander at his place behind the till.

Mr. Ollivander recorded the informations gathered. When selling a wand, he needed to record the name of the witch or wizard, and the wand that has chosen them. Finishing, he looked back up to the young girl.
"That'll be 7 Galleons please, my dear." He smiled at her and she looked behind her to her parents.

Kel reached into her Muggle jeans, pulling out a coin purse, then counted out seven large gold coins onto the counter. "Thank you so much, Mr. Ollivander!" Kel thanked him, grinning.
