Name: Nicholas Gawain Lannsman
Age: 28
Blood: Half-Blood
Animal: Gwydion, peregrine falcon
Personality
Sir Nicholas Gawain Lannsman is a man of honor with a heart of gold. Altruism, optimism, and compassion are hardly the sentiments one would expect from one his size and stature. He is usually a rather happy person, emitting an aura of friendliness that many find about him disarming and comforting. Rather sincere, he treats everyone with respect and seems to feel more like an older brother or caring father, and never one who is superior.
When things get rough, he seems to maneuver himself towards taking the brunt of it. Always, he tries to rally those who have lost faith, to keep their spirits and morale up and has more often than not, taking the problems onto his own shoulders so his friends and others could avoid harm. Mostly, he relies on doing things physically and rarely depends on magic to do menial tasks. The scars and wounds that pepper his body are tribute to his constant self-sacrifice, not his reckless need for vengeance or action.
History
Nicholas was a student at Hogwarts. He was sorted into Gryffindor, and was not the brightest of the House. His grades however, steadily improved due to his stubbornness and persistence to learn. Nicholas eventually began to accumulate a steady stream of ever so slightly above average grades and only then did he partake of any of the school activites.
He joined the Quidditch team in his third year and provided one outstanding match after another. More often than not, he was seen providing protection for the Seeker and taking many a Bludger in the process. His stubbornness and devotion to his friends and teammates kept him conscious until he’d touch the ground in several matches.
Tragedy struck the Lannsman family in his second to last year; his father, Cedric Arthur Lannsman, Auror for the Ministry of Magic was killed in action. When he had found out about this it had been near to the end of the year. He left immediately to join his family. Soon after, he and his younger brother and sister were sent to a nearby Muggle boarding school. In that school, Nicholas had picked up fencing and proved rather skilled at it, later learning other various sword fighting styles. Eventually, he graduated and told his mother he’d be “moving out” to further his studies. He returned to Hogwarts, and finished his education one year later than his friends had.
In that last year, he fell in love with a Ravenclaw girl by the name of Althea. They continued dating for a few years after graduation and eventually were wed. Soon after, Nicholas was accepted as an Auror and provided the Ministry with undivided loyalty to the Ministry and his fellow Aurors, determination and success after success in all his endeavors. During those years, he also became a loving father to his three beloved children; Vincent, Isabelle, and Edward.
His greatest distinction, in the Ministry’s eyes, had been when he had hunted down a mass murderer for several months. In the end, Nicholas saved the life of an innocent Muggle by leaping into the way of an Altered Cruciatus Curse that left him hospitalized for almost a year. During his recovery, he resigned his position as Auror. When he’d recovered enough, and had spent some time in physiotherapy, the Ministry had seen it fit to Knight him and bestowed upon him full honors for his service as Auror, which included the title of Sir, and a goblin made sword, as well as the rights to wield it.
Afterwards, he spent some time going to wizarding commuinites, teaching seminars on the dangers of the Dark Arts until he was accepted as the new Defense Against Dark Arts Professor at Hogwarts.
His door is always open to students at Hogwarts.
Appearance
Nicholas stands at about 6'4, and has long, black hair that reaches in between his shoulder blades. He has deep green eyes and a horizontal scar across his face running from his right cheek to left, even across his nose. The scar does nothing to diminish his handsome smile or make him intimidating. He has a very strong athletic build, and a quickness in his steps and movements that are surprising for someone like him.
He usually wears more utilitarian clothing; leather traveling boots, belt, tunic, vest and breeches, a heavy cloak as well as leather gauntlets similar to those used in Quidditch matches.
