Rosalind walked through the courtyards, there were flowers here and there and plenty of trees. The weather was fairly cold, but not too bad. Rose shivered slightly, she much preferred hot weather.
She sat under a tree, on her own. She hadn't mixed in that much with the other first years, though she had friends she hadn't really seemed to have made any really close ones. She wrapped her arms around her legs and rested her chin.
She glanced arund, there wasn't many people around. She started singing to herself in her sweet voice, tapping her foot slightly to the beat.

Kel wandered along in the soft spring weather, seeing a girl under a tree in one courtyard. She came in and sat down on a stone bench, pulling her pencil out from behind her ear and scribbling something in her leather-bound journal as she listened to the high, sweet voice of the girl. As her hand drew soft lines over the creamy paper, her mind was working. She recognized the girl. She had seen her in the Hufflepuff common room a couple of times, but hadn't ever really met her personally.
'Well, this is as good a time as any. I wonder if she'll initiate a conversation after she's done singing. . . or before she's done. I hope she doesn't stop singing just 'cause I'm here. I wanna finish this picture, and the song inspired me, so if she doesn't finish the song, I can't really finish the sketch. . . .'

Rose stopped singing when she noticed another girl near, she was also in first year, Huffelpuff. Rose had seen her in the common room and a few classes before. She blushed slightly.
She sat silently for a minute then decided that she might as well make a new friend. ''Hello!'' she said in a friendly voice.

Kel smiled happily at the girl, not very sad that she wasn't going to get to finish the sketch right now. I mean, if she made friends with the girl then maybe she could ask her to sing it again, to give her a chance to finish the drawing. And if she didn't want to sing, she'd still have another friend, and so would the girl. Either way, they both won out, so Kel introduced herself.
"Hello to you, too! I'm Keladry Lindenshield, but everyone except Sir Nick calls me Kel." Kel kept smiling, trying to keep the girl at ease.

Rose smiled, "Nice to meet you, Kel" she said "I'm Rosalind Burke, Rose for short" she said introducing herself, she knew her cockney accent sounded a little strange.
She then noticed that Kel had a journal, "are you drawing?" she asked.

Kel grinned at Rose as she introduced herself, and it grew even wider as she queried about her journal.
"Yeah, I am! You wanna see?" Kel asked, turning the book so that Rose could see the sketch she had made. It was of a small girl in a long, trailing dress. She was dreamily smiling off into the distance and the long skirt of her dress blew slightly in an unseen wind, her long dark hair trailing behind her in long, shimmering, yet unruly waves. It was wintertime, and there were lacy snowflakes daintily sailing down from the pearly gray sky, but the girl's pale arms were unclad. Likewise, her tiny perfect feet were bare, the blades of grass by her feet slightly frosted by the softly falling snow. Behind the girl in the background were tiny houses, with minuscule figures and microscopic animals. There was a tree off to the right, with just a few scraping branches in view of the picture.
The sketch itself was unfinished, with only the girl, a few houses and the basic outlines of the tree done. Most of the grass, all but a handful of houses and their occupants, the rest of the snowflakes and whatever else Kel decided to put in were still absent from the pencil drawing.
"As you can see, it's not really done. . ." Kel explained almost sheepishly. "I was just sketching what your song. . . gave me. . . if that makes any sense at all." Embarrassedly, Kel raised one shoulder slightly, then let it drop.
How could she explain to Rose that whenever she heard or saw something touching, she just had to grab a pencil and draw? It came from her heart. . . some people wrote to express their feelings. . . Kel drew. She wasn't good at putting stuff into words, especially something as deep and soulful as this, so how could she make Rose understand?
Kel's head hurt.

Rose looked at the picture, her eyes widened in amazement, "It's beautiful!" she said grinning. Then, when Kel said that her song had helped her draw it she nodded in understanding.
She smiled slightly "I'd love to see it finished!" she said excitedly, she loved all kinds of art, and classic music. She grinned.

Kel grinned, excited at Rose's excitement.
"I'd love to finish it!" She paused, then asked slowly, "Um. . . do you want to sing the song again? That way I could. . . you know, finish it. I mean, it was the song that inspired me, and I don't know that I could finish it if I'm not really. . . in the mood. . . if that makes sense at all." She laughed slightly, knowing that probably sounded pretty ridiculous.
