How time passes in an RPG isn't always clear, as a matter of fact it's kind of difficult to explain. I will try to make this as easy to understand as possible.
Time in an RPG can fast forward, run real time, or run in slow motion but never rewind. For example, it may take 5 days real time to role-play a classroom scene, however, in context of the game only 2 hours have past.
Also, if nothing interesting happens say for example overnight, it is assumed that your character sleeps through the night and wakes up the next morning. There is no need to role-play 8 hours of snoring, thus time in this case accelerates.
Almost never will a scene take place in real time on these boards. It's just simply not possible because there is a delay in between posts.
Here at The Secret of Magic, it is possible to be involved in more than one scene at a time. If you are taking 2 classes (which you should be if you are playing a student!), you can post in both threads at the same time, but it is understood that they actually take place at different times within the game. (ie: one on Monday and the other on Thursday)
The -only- exception to this is if something happens to your character where it is imperative to know what happens next, then you must resolve that scene first.
An example:
Jon, a first year student at Hogwarts, is taking his first flying lesson. Unfortunately for him, he accidentally flies into a wall and brakes his arm. Logically, he will require a trip to the hospital wing, thus missing his next class. In this case, Jon should be posting in the hospital wing and not his 2nd class. And if by some miracle he does make it to his next class, wouldn't it be fun to role-play his classmates signing his cast in the next class? Without resolving the scene in the hospital wing, Jon can't really continue on unless he knows what becomes of his arm.
Basically, classes are on going in real time. Things like ceremonies and balls also happen throughout the school year, but run along side the classes.
Don't think about it too hard, just Role-Play, go with the flow and PARTICIPATE and we promise you, you won't be disappointed.
Enjoy,
