He let her drag the equipment all the way to his office as he brought in his own lighter share of things. The wind had picked up quite furiously and several fat drops of water began to smack across his window by the time he'd put away his things.
"Over here." he said gruffly to the first year as he marched back to the door and shut it. He then plopped into his chair and watched until Kel finished putting away the equipment. "What should I do with ye?"

Kel plunked the things down, then turned and considered the question. She finally decided to be truthful. "Well, uh, sir, I don't really understand why I'm here. I understand that I wasn't supposed to pick up the broom and that I was late, but I didn't understand when the detention was supposed to be." Kel paused, then decided that she wouldn't mention that she found it unfair that he gave her the detention in the first place and continued. "But, seeing as I did do something wrong to get into the detention in the first place, then I should probably be punished suitably for that. As for the punishment itself, I don't know. I would make me do something that I don't like doing to drive the point home." Kel caught her breath, wondering if that was a good decision.

Aesir listened patiently, but an air of frustration seemed to hover about him.
"Of course, but do ye understand why I'm this harsh on ye? Do ye understand why in class I'm about as fun as a blast-ended skrewt with road rage? Look, sit down." he said, turning a little more casual and conversational than he did in class. He waved a hand towards a stool. "Come over here so i can talk to ye."

Kel eyed the stool, then gingerly sat down as if she expected it to snap shut on her like a bear trap. She then directed her attention to Professor MacLeod, choosing not to reply to his questions. She had a couple of ideas, but she wanted to hear why more than she wanted to pose her ideas.

Aesir sighed.
Alright, we'll do it your way. Don't say I didn't warn ye. I asked ye first.
He pulled his goggles off and tossed them onto his desk, running a hand through his hair after. "Look, Keladry, I'm that harsh on ye all because if i weren't, ye'd have much higher possibilities of needing to be scraped off the ground with a spatula. Yer kids. Ye think I like bein' a big jerk to ye all?" he asked, his voice much more normal instead of like a drill instructor.
Well, it's kinda fun.
That's beside the point.
"I don't want ye gettin' hurt is all. What do you think's the reason? Ye can go ahead an' say cuz ye think I'm a jerk. I've heard worse." he said smiling.

Kel answered immediately. The answer was an easy one, but she could sense the underlying meaning of it all. "I don't think you're a jerk. I just think maybe you could set more fun rules. But then again, I'm a kid." She did not say this sarcastically, or bitterly, just truthfully and thoughtfully. "And the reason you don't want us doing dangerous things is because you care what happens to us, even if you act like you're just trying to be mean." Kel said honestly.

Aesir nodded, smiling. "Bah, ye don't know me well enough, Keladry. I'm just a big meanie. In any case, we'd get to the fun parts later. If ye prove to me that yer willing ter follow rules, to show me that ye can be mature enough and responsible enough to fly, then maybe, just maybe I'd loosen up a bit. Ever think of that?" he asked, as he reached towards his desk and pulled a water bottle nearby, taking a sip.
It was raining very hard outside by now, the window shaking with the force of it. Aesir looked at the window.
"Jeeze, good thing I called it off when I did."

Kel thought about what he said. For some reason, she wasn't as mad as she might have been that he had implied that she wasn't being very mature. Perhaps it was partly because she knew that she hadn't been mature, and hadn't really been following the rules while she was spinning.
She raised her head and looked the professor straight in the eye. "You're right. I will obey instructions, and be careful when I'm flying. I also apologize for disobeying your orders, Professor." Kel said, every ounce of her repentant and sorry. She was ashamed that she had not obeyed Professor Aesir when he was just trying to keep them all safe (even if he did try to tell her he was just a grump). Kel understood that she might have put the rest of the class at risk by taking Professor Aesir's attention away from them, and also endangered herself with her reckless behavior. Her slightly damp hair swung forward over her face as she bent her head again, almost too ashamed to look at her professor.
