At the knight's word, the duel commenced, and Dónall nearly froze, until he heard a loud cry of "Expelliarmus" emanate from his opponent. He immediately threw up a shield charm, and blocked the attack.
At Corenthos' next spell, Don jumped out of the way, nearly being hit by one inch. He dodged the next few the same way, much to Anothony's disappointment. He didn't fight back directly, as much as he wanted to. He really took Sir Lannsmann's words to heart.

"Well, Sir, I just hope this is worth it all. I've got a lot to lose here today, and I can't decide if I care or not. I've already lost so much here..." He trailed of as he looked to where the bundled up fabric was hanging on the wall.
"A surprise?"
He watched as Nicholas spoke before the crowd and the bundled up fabrics unfolded themselves to show tow Family Crest banners, for him and for Anthony. He would have beamed with pride had he actually appreciated his family background.
At the knight's words, he shook hands with Anthony, locking eyes with the boy to sned a message. He would not back down now that it had started. He wasn't the type to just give up easily.

Dónall listened intently to what the knight had to say. He planned on winning this duel, even though he was nervous. It was his pride at stake, and he had a point to prove to his House.
"As ready as I'll ever be, Sir." this was true, for even though he felt that he could wait another few minutes, days, or even years, Dónall knew that it was now the time to do what he had to do. It didn't matter if he was really ready or not.
"Thank you for the advice, I'll consider it. Now, let's do this, I guess."

Dónall casually walked into the Dueling Arena, with no outward emotion of fear or apprehension. On the inside, however, he was a huge mess.
He had no idea how he had managed to get himself into this, and was worried about the outcome, contrary to his little threat to Corenthos out in the Entrance Courtyard.
He slowly walked over to where Nicholas was waiting and greeted him. "Hullo, Sir. I suppose we should get this over with, hmm?" he spoke with a hint of nervousness in his voice.

At the sound of Professor Novim's words, Don deemed it time to leave the scene, he would speak to the professor later, maybe. Though he would never admit to feeling anything, Don was worried for his Head of House's health, and hoped to see him back on his feet in no time.
He turned around sowly, watching the staff out of the corner of is eye, and then walked briskly out of the Great Hall heading to the Slytherin Common Room.

As the duel climaxed, Don got visibly excited at the prosect of his House Head beating the Gryffindor knight. However, that idea was soon shattered when he saw the duel end abruptly with the knight's sword at Novim's neck, and the Deputy's wand at Lannsmann's heart.
The Headmistress stopped the fight before it could take a turn for the evn worse, and Don must admit that he was disappointed it hadn't gone further. His Head of House had neither won nor lost the duel, but it was disappointing nonetheless.
As the students were ushered out of the Great Hall, Dónall hung back, getting a better look at his Slytherin Head. There was something peculiar about the way the man fell over. Getting a closer look, he realized that it was because Novim's lower leg had transfigured into smoke, while the rest of his body had stayed in its natural state. 'Peculiar indeed.'
Obviously something was amiss with the Deputy Headmaster, but Dónall wasn't the type to go rushing over to see if he was alright. That was more of a Gryffindor thing to do. He simply attempted making eye contact with the man, to acknowledge him and what had transpired.
As he locked eyes with the professor, the school nurse finally noticed the Deputy Headmaster's wound.

Dónall watched in amazement as his Head of House did absolutely nothing to stop the knight. 'Why doesn't he do something?! For Merlin's sake, man...'
Watching in awe, he mentally screamed 'Finally!' as Deputy Headmaster Novim disappeared into thin air and became visible through the magical rain the Gryffindor Head had produced.
The duel quickly escalated and Don let out a whispered "Wicked!" as his Head of House transformed into a billow of dark smoke. That feeling of awe was short lived, however, as the knight slashed through the smoke with his sword.
Eyes wide and mouth half open, Don was shocked to see that Professor Novim was hurt. He expected better from the Slytherin Head.
The Headmistress attempted to stop the duel, but the two professors ignored her as was obvious from Novim's quick transfiguration of the surrounding water into beads of glass.
Dónall watched with intensity as he waited to see what would happen next. This was sure to be an exciting duel that he would never forget. He only hoped his Head of House wouldn't be the one to lose.

Dónall was really not the type to attend these sort of school functions, unless absolutely necessary. However, the school function being a Wizarding Duel, Don was inclined to attend. Being a Pureblooded Wizard, he had a certain respect for the common practice, as that was just the way he had been raised.
Standing toward the front of the room, Don gazed at the scene in front of him. The Headmistress giving her quaint little speech, the Deputy Headmaster and the Gryffie Head on either side of her. In the background, the Gryffie Head's wife was looking right nervous, as she should seeing as her husband was up against the slyest of the Sly's.
Dónall hoped his Head of House would do Slytherin proud.

'Already? I think that must be a record...' Donall thought to himself. This really was the fastest he had managed to lose his House points. They hadn't even been back five minutes!
With his trademark smirk, Don retorted to the centaur's disciplinary action. "Thank you, Professor. I truly do appreciate the chance to cause some trouble and lose points in the process. Really, thanks."
And, with that, he continued on ahead of her, ignoring the red-haired man who he had seen on the train, and made his way to the Great Hall, and the boring speech and dinner that awaited him.

Dónall's carriage, along with many others, arrived right about the same time as the first years' boats. Hopping out of his carriage, he looked around at all the other students, thinking on how annoying this year would be; just like all the others.
He didn't like most of the student body, and could barely even stand his own Housemates. The only person he remotely tolerated was his Head of House and another student in his year; both Slytherins of course.
Walking up beside him, his 'friend' appeared, having taken a different carriage up to the castle. Walking silently side by side they passed the first years and the new Groundskeeper, and walked directly toward the centaur by the gate.
On his way past the new students, Don shoved a frightened looking child out of his way mumbling "Out of my way, firstie", and sneered at a couple more. He was not excited to be back at school, and would make no show of feeling otherwise.
Without saying a word, they waited for the rest of the older students to arrive, and for the creature to lead them in.

Dónall stared in disbelief at the red-haired man who walked into the compartment as if nothing out of the ordinary had just happened.
Before Don could even react and throw a rude comment his way, the man had walked on. He stood there in shock for a moment or two before returning to his seat and his book.

Dónall almost jumped at the sound of a knock on his window, but then realized that it was just the man he had noticed flying outside his compartment. It really was out of characrter for he never let himself get surprised by things; he prided himself on paying attention to the small details and never was caught by surprise.
This must have been an exception.
"Bloody hell!" he cried, as he tumbled off his seat in an effort to stand quickly. He stood himself up and mumbled under his breath, "So much for a nice relaxing train ride..." and with that he opened the latch to the back door of the train to let the strange red-haired man inside.

Dónall placed his book next to him on his seat and stretched a bit. As he always did, he looked out the window to see the scenery. It wasn't that it was so beautiful that he needed to see it, but merely that he needed something to occupy his thoughts, instead of his mind wandering to his life and his family...
Glancing out the window, Don caught a glimpse of something very peculiar. A flash of red hair and a broom zooming. Was someone trying to catch up with train?

With his father off in Argentina on a business trip, and his mother relaxing at the most expensive wizarding spa around, Dónall was left on his own to board the train to Hogwarts. There would be no happy send-off with tearful goodbye's from his parents. That was nothing out of the ordinary for him.
Carrying a 7 sectioned trunk, with a built in charm to be as light as a feather, Dónall boarded the train to look for an empty compartment as far away from the rest of the students as possble.
On his search for an empty compartment, Don noticed a 5th year Gryff with a couple other students he didn't recognize. Further down the corridor he saw some of his fellow Slytherins but moved faster so they wouldn't notice him. He was in no mood to be the Slytherin Ruler today; he would much rather be alone with his thoughts and books.
Finding a compartment all the way at the back of the train, Don dumped his things on the seat across from him and lay down comfortaly on his own seat, with a book in hand. Away from his peers he was comfortable reading a good novel and losing himself in that world for a little while.
Nothing could bother him if he was reading a good book. This was his favorite thing to do, out of sight, of course.

The Professor's reaction to his snide remark took Dónall very much by surprise, as it did every time. He still could not figure out why this one professor would never take his bait. Most people would either argue with him, like that Ravenclaw prat, or even most other professors. They would fight, or in the case of adults and those in authority, they woul talk down to him or back away in fright.
Sir Lannsman was a different story altogether, despite the fact that he had been a Gryffindor and was no the Head of that House. At Sir Lannsman's words, Don visibly changed the look on his face, but did not apologize for his own words.
Still tense, however, he replied. "Erm... Thank you for the offer, but you're right. I'm not interested, Sir." He stumbled on those words, the politeness behind them unfamiliar. Also, he did not make fun of the man when he used the word Sir. That had never happened before...
Before he could ponder his lack of insult and rudeness, Don turned on his heel and walked away as fast as he could without actually running away. It had been a starnge day, indeed.
