This was not Dónall Kennedy's lucky day.
First, he had been caught in an unnecessary argument with an insufferable prat of a Ravenclaw, and now he had been spotted by the Gryffindor Head of House before he could even find himself a decent Butterbeer. It must be "Annoy Don Day" or something, because by Merlin's beard, this was not his idea of a good time.
"Hello, Sir Lannsman" he replied, making sure to put extra emphasis on the man's title. As if Gryffindors needed extra things to make them think highly of themselves. "I was rather fine until about a second ago."

Don glared after the Jannings girl as if he truly hated her. Deep down, though, he didn't hate anybody, but it would be long before he would come to that realization.
Unfortunately, his plans to go novel browsing and purchasing in Flourish and Blott's would have to wait for another time. There was no way in Merlin's World that Dónall would follow the insufferable Ravenclaw into the shop now.
He would return later when he was sure she had gone. For now he would content himself with a butterbeer from a nearby drink stand.

As soon as his Head of House was safely out of sight, Dónall turned around to face the persistent girl behind him. He glared at her, with annoyance and malice in his own eyes. He didn't like when people pried.
"Why are you still here, silly girl? I don't have to answer your foolish questions, and you are wasting my time."

Were Donall's ears decieving him? Had his Head of House just congratulated him on his Transfiguration OWL? Even more so, had he just congratulated the obnoxious Ravenclaw girl that was still standing behind him? He clenched a fist in annoyance.
"Erm... Thank you, professor." He managed to get out. "I suppose it must have been because of the genius professor we had."
It was times like these that Don loved the fact he was able to lay on the Slytherin charm as best as the rest of them. It was his way of dealing with those in authority, ithout having to share any sort of information or interact for too long. Usually, the professor would get annoyed and decide to end the conversation, or take off House points for his cheekiness.
In this situation, however, Dónall wasn't too sure how he could get away without having to wait for the Professor Novim to leave on his own. And, even then, he would still have the blasted Ravenclaw girl to deal with.

Don turned back to look at the Jannings girl. 'Stupid over-achievers...' he thought to himself. He continued walking, not paying her any attention until he was spotted by his Hogwarts Head of House. It was strange to see a wizard of the school staff outside of the castle, especially during the summer holiday.
"Professor, sir, how may I help you on this very fine day?" Throwing in a bit of cheek, Donall cocked an eyebrow in his Head of House's direction, ignoring the girl behind him.

...Slytherin's think of nothing but themselves The Ravenclaw girl then walked away slowly, leaving Dónall standing there wondering where the argument had gone.
He yelled after her, "You couldn't be more wrong, Jannings. You know nothing of Slytherin House." Lowering his voice to nearly a whisper, he continued, "And nothing about me."
And with that, he turned on his heel and finally left the shop, haughtily brushing past a familiar looking girl on his way out. He continued on his way to Flourish and Blotts.

Dónall had walked right into a female someone. It was a seventh year Ravenclaw, he noted. He recognized the face, but he never made it a habit of being on a first name basis with anyone other than his core circle of 'friends'.
"Why don't you watch where you're going, Jannings!" he retorted, not caring that it really had been his own fault. "You Ravenclaw nerds walk around as if you own the darn place."
He glared at the girl, a look of disdain plastered on his face. He would wait for her to get out of his way before he continued on with his shopping. He would do her no favors by moving.

Madam Malkin's Robes for All Occasions is known to be the best robe shop around. It certainly is an asset to Diagon Alley, even more so than the shoddy Second Hand Robe place.
It was a few weeks before the start of term, and Dónall Kennedy was in Diagon Alley shopping for some school supplies. He had bought his new books, and quills already, and was just trying on some new dress robes. After this stop he would go on to Flourish and Blotts to purchase some new reading material and maybe some text books as well, if the mood would strike him, that is.
Madam Malkin was a friendly, squat witch who ran her shop with a smile. Dónall, however, treated her like garbage, especially when his parents weren't around, which was more often than not. This time was no exception to that rule.
"Get me the finest black and green dress robes you have, woman. And make it quick, I have a life, you know!" He barked orders at the poor woman, expecting her to cater to his every whim. She was a shop keeper, and that was their job, was it not?
Flustered, Madam Malkin replied. "Err... Y-yes sir, right away sir." And, with that, she disappeared into the back of her shop to look for the finest robes she could offer.
Moments later she returned with a few sets of robes, none by any famous designer though she rattled on of how much they cost and who was buying them these days. This was unacceptable to Dónall. He sent her back to find him something a real Wizard would wear.
Reappearing from the back of the store, Madam Malkin held a set of designer robes, with silver trimming and intricate celtic embroidery around the edges. The sleeves were a deep green, and the rest of the body was jet black. These robes were made by the famous wizard designer Samhain Munk, and were not in the least bit cheap.
With a look that somewhat resembled a sneer, he snapped, "Yes, I will try these on and see if they are acceptable."
Don hopped into a dressing room and quickly dressed himself in his finery. He pulled back the curtain that served as a door and looked in the three sided mirror in front of him. "These will do, witch." Then, without another word he returned to his dressing room and got dressed in his everyday clothes, again.
A moment later, at the front desk of the shop, Dónall simply dropped a small pouch with 20 Galleons on the counter and said "I assume this will cover the expenses," and then stalked out of the shop, without waiting for his change.
However, on his way out the door, he walked right into someone, not paying any attention at all.

Donall stared, dumbfounded, the knight's words hitting home.
He didn't try to follow, but watched them a bit. Tears began to form in his eyes, but he hurriedly blinked them away. Seconds later, they fell freely but silently.
He walked around and found a couple of students who had not yet fled the scene. He ushered them to the exit, but not in a very nice way. He merely grabbed and pushed them in the direction of the door, but not as harshly as he would normally have done. He didn't say a word. Focusing on this task, he ignored the feelings running through him, and then followed the students out the exit with one last look back at Sir Lannsman and his wife.

Donall had hidden away behind the overturned staff table, knowing full well that he was not a strong enough dueler to fight a grown monster. However, he didn;t follow when the students were ushered out, and refused to leave.
He peered around the table, and frantically looked around for something. He saw Dr. Lannsman injured, and a few other students as well, and then he spotted what he was looking for. Sir Nicholas Lannsman.
The students were taken out of the Hall, but the couple still remained on their way to the exit. He walked over, stepping around the huge bodies of the creatures to get to them. Charmed suits of armor were bringing down the last of the monsters, and Don made sure to stay clear of them.
"Err... Professor, sir?" he said, in a shaky voice. "Might I be of any assistance?" His eyes flashed momentarily with worry; he truly did care for the man, despite his attempts at ignoring and disliking him the past month or so.

Donall had not followed most of the students behind the overturned staff table, but had stood his ground in front of his House table. He neither ran nor screamed, and didn't move to get his Housemates to safety, either.
However, now one of the creatures made its way over to the Slytherin table, and seemed set on attacking a small first year student inches away from him. "Oh bugger" he said, under his breath. "I suppose I have to do something."
He whipped out his wand and roughly pulled the young student behind him without a word. Raising his wand level with the creature, Don cried out a stunning spell, and then ran with the frightened boy, depositing him behind the Staff table with the rest of the students. The child would hopefully continue on with the staff and students who would leave through the Kitchen exit.
Don slithered back around the overturned table to watch the action. He wondered what was going on with Sir Lannsman. He hadn't seen him enter the Hall, and thought maybe he got caught by the monsters before their grand entrance.

Donall was back to his tall dark and broody ways, ever since had returned from his brief 'vacation' home. He talked to no one, save for those who got in his way, and then it couldn't be considered talking as much as it could be considered barking orders at frightened students.
He sat alone at the far end of the Slytherin table, though his end was closest to the staff table. This gave him a good view of the staff if he so chose to pay attention to anything other than his barely touched plate of dinner. He didn't care if the staff watched him, he wouldn't show them anything they wished to see.
Unfortunately, Don had closed up since his return, and become nasty and rude to all, though was as quiet and withdrawn as ever when he wasn't. His eyes, however, could give him away in a heartbeat, but he never let anyone make eye contact with him long enough to read the hidden emotions in their depths.
He stared silently into his plate, wishing dinner would end soon.

Don's eyes widened at the sight of the silvery patronus. He had never seen a patronus before.
He nodded quietly at the professor. "Thank you. I suppose I'll go pack, just in case."
And with that he walked away to his Common Room to await the knight's patronus, and start packing his trunk.

Don looked at Sir Nick as if he had gone mad. Why was he so concerned?
"Erm... yes, Sir. I'll try to write you." He was obviously uncomfortable.

"Yes," he replied. "my father can be very persuasive in situations such as these. The Headmistress cleared it... or at least that's what this letter says."
And, with that, he shoved the crumpled piece of parchment at Nicholas. "See?"
