Shellivia had just made sure that all the students were in the Great Hall and gave a quick look to make sure that no one had sneaked off. "Excellent" she said outloud and with another wave of her wand the doors shut loudly behind her, causing a few students nearby to jump. Walking with almost regal poise she headed for the professors table duely ignoring some of the stares and whispers of some students whom still were not used to seeing a centaur. Once at the platform she forwned pointedly. They had, once again, only the small set of stairs that lead up which were not nearly large enough for her to climb. Glancing up, she gave a pointed look to Elsebeth and looking at the stairs. Backing up about 7 paces she gave a short jog hopped up on stage, nearly slipping on the polished stone. "We really do need to fix those steps." she said to no one in particular, and then looking back to Elsbeth she said, "all the students are accounted for Headmistress." Moving back to her seat on the other side of Nicholas and his family and nodded politely to Althea and the children before transfiguring her chair into a large piloow that she then kneeled upon.

If there had been any hustling, bustling or whispering happening in the great hall it was suddenly interrupted by three very loud hollow knocks that echoed throughout the beautiful hall. The knocks were slow, and one after the other. The door then creaked open, and the Deputy Headmaster slipped his way through.
Orynn's white hair, shoulder and arm was all that could be seen. His gaze was for the Headmistress, who stood in the center of the staff room. Orynn ignored the older students who were looking at him quizzically, and he caught Elsbeth's eyes.
"They are here, Headmistress." He said with a stone cold under tone.

Before Elsbeth could answer to Aesir's embarrassment, she was welcomely interrupted by the Care of Magical Creatures Professor. "Thank you, Miss Taronin," she replied, before the professor made her way to her seat.
Turning her attention back to the man standing in front of her, Elsbeth decided not to be so harsh, as she had first thought to be. "No worries Sir Macleod, your flying skills and broom know-how are very much welcome here, despite your penchant for verbal banter." With a slight mischevious smile, she released her hand from her goblet of pumpkin juice and motioned for him to take a seat a few seats down from her own.
"Please, do take a seat."
Turning to the Deputy Headmaster who had just arrived, Elsbeth answered with a quick "Thank you, bring them in." and then took her seat at the table.

"I love you too, honey." She said to her husband, now having stopped tickling Edward. The baby now quietly looked around at his surroundings, unsure of what to make of it.
The two older children turned to look at the centaur who had taken her place near by the family.
Isabelle's eyes grew wide and stared at Shellevia, her mouth almost gapping wide open and pointed. "Mommy, horsey lady!"
Althea smiled back at the centaur, unsure of who she was and looked to her husband, with a pointed look after telling her daughter that it isn't polite to point.
Introduce me...

The clattering cacaphony of clomping hooves quickly diverted Aesir's attention as he felt more than heard the sketchy landing of the centaur nearby. He took a half step forward to help her, but she didn't fall.
What'd ye have done if she'd fallen anyway? She must weigh a ton! Ye're broom doesn't have that much horsepower.
He looked back to Elsbeth who seemed to be brandishing less of her venomous words. With a slight nod, he accepted her compliment before giving her an 'Oh really?' look when she quipped about his penchant for word play.
He gave her a small bow. "Aye, I'll be takin' me seat then."
Aesir turned his gaze to the blonde woman sitting beside her, giving her a quick evaluatory look.
He whistled his appreciation in his mind.
Looks like Elsbeth ain't the only looker round here.
Aesir shifted gears with his voice, turning his wiles to the blonde lady. He gave her a mischievous, curious smile and look. " 'Scuse me, Miss, but would ye mind if I sat here?" he asked, his tone as velvety smooth as it was when he first met Elsbeth. He pointed to the empty chair in between the blonde woman and Elsbeth.

The defence against dark arts proffessor's hand twitched over his wand when Shellivia almost missed her step and fell. He casually let it slide away when she moved to her new seat.
Nicholas looked to Isabelle and gave her a reproachful look. "Sweetie, you know that's not polite. Centaur. Cen-taur, okay?" he said gently, but being firm enough to let her know she was being rude.
He gave a quick look to the red-haired man who seemed to be talking to Elsbeth; he seemed to have been in a varied state of shock when he'd spoken to her. Movement alongside him caught his attention and he looked to his wife.
Once she gave him the pointed look, he managed a small "Oh, right." before he looked to Shellivia, none too far away.
"Glad you could join us Shellivia." Nicholas began happily, glad to see his friend return. He looked to his wife and children. "I don't believe I've introduced you to my family."

Shellivia smiled and inclined her head to acknowledge the child and gave a little wave to her. Looking to Nicholas she shook her head. "No, I haven't had the peleaure. I know of your wife; Dr. Althea Lannsman. Lady Elsbeth told me she was being hired to help with the sick and broken children. I also remember you saying she is an excellent cook. As of your herd, you have spoken many hours of them, but I'm not sure which foal is which." She looks at the children with some intrest. "I'm sure we can get aquainted after the ceremony."

Orynn smiled in receiving Elsbeth's acknowledgment. He then slipepd out of side again, the door barely making a sound in protest as it shut closed again.
Many moments passed, and the hall quited down with anticipation. A loud boom was suddenly heard, and the doors to the Great Hall pushed inward slightly. They then proceeded to open more, slowly at first before it finally stopped.
In flooded the year's first year students, at the head of which was the Head of Slytherin, and Deputy Headmaster. He walked at a brisk pace, as the students behind him looked around them in awe and wonder. The older grades looked at the first years with a mixture of expressions. Some were uncertain, some loathed them, and some gave gestures of encouragement.
Orynn finally turned around just before the steps that led to the elevated platform, and the staff table. At the very top of said steps was a plain looking stool, with an even more plain looking had slumped upon it. It looked raggedy, almost as if it had been a rat's home, or a kitten's play thing. Nonetheless, the hat looked someone mysterious, as if it had many secrets kept and many stories to tell.
A scroll of parchment was fished out of Orynn sleeve, and he looked at the first years. He held his chin high, as he absentmindedly hit the scroll on his bare hand. He waited for complete silence from all within the Great Hall, before addressing the first years, but speaking loud enough for the entire hall to hear him.
"Before we begin the Sorting, the Headmistress would like to say a few welcoming words." Orynn turned half the way, and looked over to where Elsbeth sat. He nodded to her, giving her the floor.
Orynn eyes glanced to a red-haired man with a broom in hand, still not seated. Orynn's brows furrowed as he thought it disrectful to the Headmistress not to already be seated.
As it was, the Staff table was filled like from left to right with: The Lannsman family, Shellivia (the centaur), a number of professors who's names he could not recall, and an empty seat. To the right of that was the Headmistress, then the seat which the red-haired scot was wanting to sit apparently, the Head of Ravenclaw House, some more insignificant Professors and empty seats, and then the Head of Hufflepuff.
Orynn now waited patiently for Elsbeth's first address to the student body.

"Thank you Deputy Headmaster Novim." she said, nodding in his direction as she stood at her seat. With a quick "Sonorus," she was ready to begin.
"Welcome to Hogwarts, children. This year will begin your journey on the path towards magical greatness. You, the first years, are the next generation of the Wizarding World, and I know you will do your respective Houses proud." At these last words she gestured with her hand toward to the four House tables in front of her.
"The Sorting Ceremony is a tradition here at Hogwarts, as is this raggedy looking Hat you see before you. This hat belonged to the four founders of Hogwarts, and each of them placed their essence inside of it. It always knows exactly where you belong, even if deep in your heart you may not know."
Smiling gently at the eleven year olds, Elsbeth concluded, "and now, without further ado, Deputy Headmaster Novim will begin the Sorting Ceremony."
With a mumbled "Quietus" she lowered her voice and sat back down in her seat.

Kel stared around her, struck dumb by all the candles and students and professors. She couldn't wait to get that hat on her head and hear it say which House she belonged in. If it wasn't Hufflepuff, she wouldn't exactly be thrilled, but Ravenclaw and Gryffindor were tied for second. She didn't even think about what would happen if she got Sorted into Slytherin, because she knew she wouldn't. She just wasn't the Slytherin type.
The tall first-year listened to the Headmistress' words, carefully recording it so that she could take it out later to go over the wonderful moment again. She brought herself back out of sheer curiosity about what was going to happen next. Kel had to admit to herself that although she was excited about getting Sorted, she was a little-well, maybe more than a little-okay a lot-scared of standing in front of the whole school and putting the wise old Hat on her head and letting it say where she belonged. The green-eyed brunette didn't mind the Sorting itself, but the fact that it went on under the eyes of all her future peers and the judge mental older students put her off a bit.
All the same, she waited in line to see what was going to happen.

Seated at the end of the Slytherin table, Dónall quietly glared around the room. His eyes fell on the Centaur who had taken points from him, watching as she tipped on her way to her seat. He laughed silently, wondering why in the world a Centaur would even be allowed in the school; something he had wondered since she had started working there before.
His eyes wandered to the rest of the staff, briefly resting on the red haired man from the train. It seemed as though this man was drawn to the Headmistress, for she was the first one he went to after he entered the Great Hall. Though, now that he watched more closely, it seemed as though the Headmistress had tried to ignore him because he was focusing more on the blonde seated next to her.
His eyes darted to his Head of House as he sauntered in, probably to let the Headmistress know that they were ready, and then to the Lannsman brood. He didn't much like children, really, but he couldn't help but think how cute these children were, despite their inherent tendencies to be obnoxious brats. All children were like that, and he would definitely try not to let appearnces fool him.
He watched as the first years filed in behind Deputy Headmaster Novim, and he barely listened to the Headmistress' cliche speech about the Sorting Ceremony. He sat back and zoned out for the ceremony ahead.

Orynn nodded back to the Headmistress as he climbed up the stairs to stand beside the stool and had. He whisked around to face the first years, the attention of the room averting back to the Deputy.
"Now, let it begin." Orynn said, as a hand waved to the hat, witch was now upright and taller. It's folds formed a face, with an expression of old age and and eternal wisdom.

The hat shook itself, before perking up to uphold his promise made many years ago. It's voice was broad and loud, and filled the ears of all within the Great Hall.
"Many a year ago it seems, The duty fell to me, To sing my song and bring the news, Of where students ought to be. Chosen by the founders four, To help young students find their way, When, confused, they stumble in, On their first Hogwarts day. Four houses to choose from, Not one less or more, Each one by a different founder, To fill with students they adore. Gryffindor, loving bravery, Chose the strong of heart, While Slytherin, feeling differently, Thought cunning the greatest art. Ravenclaw claimed for her own house, The brainy and the smart, While Hufflepuff took to her dear house, The just and kind of heart. All these students, with their differences, Are each key to this great school. And if Hogwarts hopes to stand, Unity’s the greatest tool. House to house and hand to hand, Leaving differences behind. Only when you work together, Can your strengths all be combined. Now at last, the time has come, For me to send you separate ways. But remember, our division, Could bring the end of Hogwarts’ days. " Credit goes to Phoenix-Dust
The hat then settled down, as it finished it's tune. Waiting for the first student to assess.

Orynn Novim applauded for a short time. He then opened his scroll of parchment and picked up the hat in the other hand.
"Please come forward, and sit on the stool when you are called. Sarah Alomar." Mr. Novim watched as a girl, wringing her hands, climbed up the steps. She was trembling slightly when she sat down on the stool. Orynn lowered the hat upon her head.

A head darted out from behind the great door, glancing out quite apprehensively. Oh man... oh, man am I in for it...
Alex did not see any way to enter without being seen, or noticed; and the blue shade of his skin stood out in blaring contrast to his reddish hair. In the condition he was, he hardly was willing to try a spell of invisibility; not that he knew one, but when did that stop him?
Since when did trying to make ice make me blue? Man....
Alex looked on in the great hall, still cursing himself for being late, and for turning aquamarine... At least this time it wasn't fur. But... the ceremony had already started; he'd missed the feast, which meant no food tonight, and probably a subtraction from Gryffindor for managing to tarry long enough to try out something the moment he got a chance to... when he was not supposed to. Right off the trains and right into trouble; that was Alex to a 't'.
As the ceremony progressed, Alex grew more and more antsy. Was there an opening...? Not that he could see... there had to be one...
