Stevie sighed slightly, and leaned back in his chair, not tilting it, but just leaning back, waiting for anything else to happen. He was growing tired himself, and bored. And having a sleeping prairie dog in your pocket didn't do much for your tiring either.
Stevie looked to the staff table. The staff seemed like a personable bunch. That was always good. Stevie hated having mean, strict teachers. Stevie just hoped that he didn't have homework often. Or, at least, have a study hall or somewhere like that do DO the homework in. Stevie remembered having study hall. He LOVED it, just getting his homework done before everyone else and just come home and relax. He guessed it would be somewhat like this.

Orynn had just begun to chew his food when the question was asked. He moved the morsel of meat around his mouth as he set his utensils down slowly. He then reach for his napkin, wiped his mouth and swallowed hard.
He side glanced down the side of the table. The Lannsman family were giddy with their supper, and were in the midst of conversation with Madame Nos Toranin. Orynn eyes wavered to the features of Nicholas, and one couldn't help but notice Orynn's eyes slit slightly.
"You are..." Orynn had said in a deep voice. He then rotated his head to look the Headmistress clear in the face. His eyes open and unfocused looking. "...at least... from my part. I cannot make promises for others." He smiled, but in the way one does when they know themselves right.

She had only asked because she was worried for the both of them. She felt a tension between the two professors and knew there must be something going on between them.
"I'm glad to hear it, I wouldn't want the Gryffindor Head of House to be unable to care for his students or his children."
And, with a wink, she added, "and I suppose I wouldn't want my second in command to become incapacitated through a silly fight with a fellow professor, either."
Looking at her Deputy's plate, she realized she had probably interrupted his enjoyed dinner. "If you'd like to get back to your food, I won't stop you."

Orynn nodded once more. "Your concern is noted Headmistress, but I can take care of myself."
Still the Deputy seemed to appreciate her words, though he had not said so. Elsbeth was an authority figure, and Orynn never did like authority. Still, Elsbeth never did act like one with a whip in hand, she was much more friendly towards her staff and encouraged cooperation. For that he did not fully understand her, but was rather proud to be her colleague, let alone her second in command.

Still playing with her food, Elsbeth flashed him another smile and responded. "Duly noted, sir."
Elsbeth cared very much for the wellbeing and feelings of her staff. She understood that a happy staff was an efficient staff, and knew that this was the way to run her school. Though it was her first year on the job, she was very optimistic as to what she could do.
Delving into thought, Elsbeth fell into a comfortable silence, not quite ignoring Orynn as much as she was simply just not talking.

Post by Aesir MacLeod on Nov 18, 2007 0:23:53 GMT -5
Aesir spent most of the time looking around the hall surreptitiously, trying to make his wonder and amazement as unobtrusive as possible. Though he gawked at the Sorting Hat, floating candles and teleporting food, his memory dwindled when the tall, black haired Gryffindor Head of House went to talk before the students.
And the sword the man had beneath the cloak. It soon clicked.
Wait a tick! He's the that Auror knight guy from the Daily Prophet! He's a lot bigger than I expected...
Aesir swallowed his tongue at the amazement of being in the presence of someone relatively famous, when the man mentioned Harry Potter. There were some moments that were meant to remain quiet.
Aesir kept his mouth shut for a few moments.
Soon after the food came about and, barely containing himself from jumping out of his seat, he decided to eat and listen in to some conversations.
He soon keyed into Elsbeth's and the Deputy's. After chewing on some of the bread, he leaned in casually to her.
"You know, I think it's going ter end poorly. One of thems got a sword, and the other don't look too kindly an' merciful. It's like pointin' a knife at a man with a gun; kinda unfair, no? Either that, or the big guy is gonna waltz on over an' snap yer Deputy in half." Aesir mumbled a little louder than he expected, quickly giving Orynn a smile and apologetic look. "Sorry Chief, but it's what it appears ter look like. He's crazy ter fight wizards with that thing, if he does. How can he fight back, anyway? An' fighting crazy people ain't ever a bit safe."

Shellivia smiled at the children and waved to the little giggling boy. Shaking Althea's hand she smiled back her and inclined her head. "It's a pleasure to finally meet you; Nicholas has spoken quite a lot about you. A fellow Ravenclaw? Well, its very nice to meet you. I'm sure we'll be seeing each other quite a bit this year; I'm usually the one who grows or finds the medicinal herbs." Shellivia smiled down at the children again. "Your foals are quite lovely, you must be very proud of them." She absently took a peice of spinach and chewed on it.

He looked at Donall with a midly ruffled expression at his enthusiasm. "I told them I planned on continuing to raise my family's racing Granians and continuing the tradition." He delicatly cut a cherry tomatoe into quarters before eating each segment separately. "Asides from that, I was 'counciled' to go into a section of the charms office for the gouvernment but the lady who came to see me was rather upset after I said that the only way they could get me into a gouvernment office is if they sent someone younger and far more attractive to lure me into that hell hole." He set down his fork. "Do we need to sit here forever, or can we go soon? I've had quite enough of all this noise."

"That's very good to know. I will most likely be seeing you lot then, I've got a bit of a green thumb myself. I've already got some potted plants on the windows sills of the hospital wing..."
Admitably, Althea didn't really like her children being referred to as foals, but said nothing about the subject, as she knew that Shellevia only meant well.
"Thank you, we are very proud of them."
As her gaze drifted down the table at the rest of the staff, she noticed Orynn's glare. When her eyes made contact for a brief moment, she quickly looked away and blinked a couple times.
That look sends shivers down my spine...

Minka sets her plate full of salt down, satisfied by the results she obtained. She concluded that perhaps the hat had some credibility after all, and that the source of it's magic may have it's roots divination magic.
Minka quietly ate her food, being more interested in the roasted meat than the vegetables. She looked out to the sea of dinning students and surveyed the Hufflepuff table, actually managing to crack a smile at a few students who looked her way.
Other than that, she attempted to make small talk with the neighboring professors at the table next to her, who didn't really seem to have any interest in her what so ever, again feeling a bit ostracized for never having attended Hogwarts. She was unfortunately too far away to participate in any of the more interesting conversations at the head table...

Elsbeth's pleasant silence was unfortunately interrupted by none other than Aesir MaCleod, butting into ther seemingly finished conversation with her Deputy Headmaster.
"Yes, Aesir, but I do trust my staff that they will fight fairly. They are both mature adults, after all, unlike some I know..."
Looking toward Oryn, she finished off saying, "Though if I do find that there's been some trickery involved, on either side, punishments will follow."
Turning back to Aesir, Elsbeth gave a tight lipped smile, and then returned to the rest of her meal. It was almost time to end the feast, anyway.
[OOC: Let's finish this convo so I can say that the feast is over, thanks. Same goes to anyone else who's in the middle of conversing - the feast is ending super soon!]

Don nodded in appreciation, he could completely understand Thomas' predicament with the Charms office. It was always easier when there were aesthetically pleasing things involved.
"Soon we'll be sent off to our Common Room with our Head of House and Prefects." said Dónall, in a bored voice. "Never is soon enough..."
And, with that, Dónall focused his attention back onto the food in his plate and ate in comfortable silence, awaiting the time when they could return to their House.

Orynn didn't say anything to respond to either the red-headed blunder, or the threat from his superior. He continued finishing his meal, not making contact with any others up until the feast was finished.

Having given everyong sufficient amount of time to complete their dinner and socialize, Elsbeth decided it was right about time to end the Starting Feast and send the children off to their respective Common Rooms.
Standing at her seat, and raising her voice with a charm, she spoke to the room full of witches and wizards. "If you'll excuse me, children, and fellow staff members, but I do believe it is time for the young folk to go on to their Common Rooms. You'll find all your belongings already in your dormitories, as per the House Elves."
Turning to her fellow colleagues, she continued. "Your House Heads, along wih your prefects, will now escort you to your Comon Rooms."
[OOC: This thread is now locked. Students please go RP where your HOH's started for you in your Common Rooms, if you haven't already. Also, classes started today; attend! Yay, activity!!]
