Elsbeth sat tensely, next to the Ancient Runes professor. On Miss Winters' other side was Aesir MaCleod, the new Flying Instructor, the same man who had driven her mad in Diagon Alley.
She surreptitiously glanced their way between students being sorted, and she wasn't too thrilled to see their newest staff wizard was too busy looking down his colleagues dress instead of paying attention to his surroundings. When he finally did pay attention, however, he was obviously quite shocked to learn that the Sorting Hat could speak.
Elsbeth sniggered behind her hand; it was cute that he didn't know much about being a Wizard.
Turning her attention back to the students, she watched the rest of the Sorting Ceremony with a tiny smile playing on her lips.

Orynn took the hat off the newly sorted young man, as he ran off to sit with his cheering table of Gryffindors. His eyes flickered for half a moment to a late Ravenclaw student. It would of course be Mrs. Jannings. The Deputy Headmaster logged the event away in his mind before summoning the next student on his list.
Hufflepuff admitted a single new member, and Slytherin was home for another two students. The Ravenclaw table made room for four new members, as Gryffindor seemed to be an unworthy selection for sometime. Finally, Orynn came to the next name on his list.
"Keladry Lindenshield" The sorting had was poised in the air within Orynn's grasp. Ready to be dropped on another first year when ready.

Aesir grinned back to Zea. He kept grinning as she tugged at her bodice.
Hello Zea, it's a pleasure to meet you.
Shaking his head slightly, his gaze quickly snapped up as he extended a hand in her direction. "Aesir MacLeod, at yer service. I teach proper broom etiquette." he whispered in her ear, feigning politeness to not disrupting the ceremony and just trying to get closer to her. He kept talking, letting his silver tongue do the work as he spoke in velvety tones. "You know, how to properly sweep an attractive lass like yerself for example, off her feet and whatnot."
He pulled back and gave her one short look, his eyes projecting his interest and his mouth quirked in a lopsided roguish grin.
Oh yeah, she wants me.
He looked back out to the talking hat, fixing it with and incredulous look as though nothing had happened between Zea and himself.
That things totally just messed up.

Zea raised an eyebrow, and bit back a snicker.
Oh, he's a smooth one all right. Definitely going to be trouble...
Not that I mind, really. Could use a little trouble in my life.
She focused on the Sorting in front of her, and tried to ignore the goosebumps that had raised on her forearms at the feel of his breath on her neck.
Somehow, I get the feeling I'm going to be dealing with a lot of girls with crushes on their flying teacher this year... oh boy.

In the middle of watching the Sorting Ceremony, Elsbeth paid attention to the conversation happening beside her; between the Flying Instructor and the Ancient Runes Professor.
In the midst of drinking her pumpkin juice, she furrowed her brow. It seemed that this man was interested in more than just one Hogwarts Professor. Not that it bothered her or anything, of course...
"So, Sir MacLeod, does that line work on most women?"
A tinge of jealousy flashed in her eyes as she glanced toward Zea then back to the man. She slowly lowered her goblet to the table, but held on to it ever so lightly

What's a matter Elsbeth? Yer lookin' a wee bit green with envy.
Aesir smiled mentally, enjoying his small victory against the Headmistress.
"Hm? What line do ye mean, Headmistress?" the flight Professor asked, sounding innocet and genuine in his loss for a response.
There are really just too many lines ter count. I need to start cuttin' back on a few. It's gettin' ter be too much.

Studying the design of her goblet, she turned it around and around. Elsbeth had a habit of playing with things in uncomfortable situations such as this one.
She raised an eyebrow inquisitively, and replied "I would say all of them, MacLeod, but I wouldn't want to be too harsh now, would I?."

Ye know...she is right.
He let her have that point, but he continued simply for the sake of argument.
"Oh come now, Elsbeth. No need ter be snippy. You barely saw the tip of the iceerg when I met ye. I'll go through them all with ye and then ye can decide if they're all so bad." he said, almost condescendingly but sounding more amused than anything. "And besides, ye can call me Aesir. We go back."
He patted her hand gently before looking out again to the students with a smug grin.

'Hands off, broom boy,' she thought to herself. 'No need to touch me yet.'
"I am so sorry, Sir," she said, the word sir dripping with emphasis. "What with my busy Headmistress and Potions schedule, I don't think we'll have the time to go through your entire repertoire."

Aesir looked over to her, a mask of convincingly feigned hurt on his face.
"But, Elsbeth, if you're too busy all the time, when will I be able to take you out to that lunch I promised you? You have to eat, don't you? I guess I can respect that. Sorry for those things I said then. I take them back, Headmistress." he said woundedly, fixing her with a heartbroken glance for a moment. He whispered those words loud enough for her to hear as he dejectedly scratched at the tablecloth, head hung low.
Let's see how heartless ye are.

Kel heard her name called, so she stepped up, carefully balancing herself on the rickety little stool. She glanced out over the students, but quickly looked away as the numerous floating candles dazzled her. All the eyes on her didn't help.

The hat was snug atop of the head of the young eleven year old girl. The voice of the hat was heard only by her at first, and spoke with great conviction and certainty.
"Aha yes my dear, I know exactly where to place you. All the eyes on you may unnerve you now, but you will soon find that it is under the most painstaking pressures that you procure your best work." The hat then spoke aloud. "Yes, yes I say. You will do well... in Hufflepuff!"
The Hufflepuff table erupted into cheers.

Seeing the look of hurt on Aesir's face, Elsbeth couldn't help but ease up on the harsh words. "Well... we are sitting here eating dinner at the same time, aren't we?"
Yes, she could be nice if she tried and really meant it. "I suppose that must constitute as eating dinner together, hm?"
She momentarily turned her attention back to the Sorting as an eleven year old girl was sorted into Hufflepuff and clapped proudly for her.

Orynn lifted up the hat from the head of the newly sorted first year. He looked around him for a split moment, at the tables that were crowding with more and more new faces. It was a very warming sight to see.
Finally looking down at his parchment again, he resumed the ceremony. In this next surge of student name-calling, Ravenclaw became the home for another four students. Gryffindor gained five new admitions. Hufflepuff was called once more, as was Slytherin. And then came the next name;
"Neoma Tsylence"

And now, the coup de grace.
Aesir sighed as he clapped, somewhat hollowly, to the newly sorted student. Aesir shrugged almost imperceptibly. "Look, Headmistress. We're both adults. I can understand ye don't want nothin' ter do with me and only want ter keep this professional. I can't help but think it might be a good idea, unfortunately. No need to try to appease me. I doubt ye'd want ter consider this as our 'lunch' date. We've barely gotten ter know each other and 'sides, it's the opening ceremony. I know ye're busy. I'll drop on by yer office sometime ter tell ye about the brooms and stuff later I s'pose." he managed to mutter. "I'm sorry if I made ye uncomfortable or angry. It weren't me intent. I just saw a beautiful lady whom I wished to compliment, even impress. I'll keep me thoughts to meself then."
He kept his gaze forward at the see of students. Interesting little ceremony they had. He even pondered where he would have fit, had he ever gone to Hogwarts.
Were I not some sort of magical cripple.
