Stevie was now standing there, guitar in hand. Did he feel like an idiot now. He assumed they were going in alphabetical order. That meant Stevie would be somewhat early, and maybe have to wait for his friends. That would just kill him inside. Oh well.
Stevie stood there, and looked at the people going up, one at a time. Maybe it was a GOOD thing that he was going up somewhat early. He'd just get it over and learn what house he's in. Maybe meet some people. That would be great.

'Aha,' the Hat said in Sarah's mind 'another Alomar. I remember your sister well. The question is, will you live up to her achievements or do your own thing. Seems to be that bright minds run in your family. I could place you in Ravenclaw, you know.'
'I'm not my sister,' Sarah thought, 'I'm my own person, you silly hat.'
'Touchy subject, dear?' the Hat thought back, his voice ringing in Sarah's ears. 'Very well then, if you're so stubborn about it why don't I just place you in the House of...'
And with that, the Hat called aloud, "Gryffindor!"

The Deputy Headmaster didn't react at all. He simply plucked the hat off of the students' head, as she went to sit with her new house mates, who had erupted into roars of celebration on the Sorting Hat's announcement.
A handful of other students had been called up. Three went to Slytherin, another two went to Hufflepuff, and Gryffindor gained a new student as well. Orynn was moving his scrolled upwards with each name called, so that his thumb was always pointing at the next name to be called. He peered down, and said out loud.
"Stevie Copeland."

Zea, distracted by the beginning of the Sorting, only half-heard Aesir speaking to her. She snapped her head up quickly once her brain managed to process it.
"What? Hm? Sit there? Oh, yes, certainly, go right ahead," she replied, in a rather loud whisper. She smiled at him slightly. "It's all a little overwhelming. It's been a good fifteen years since I've been here, and longer still since my own Sorting. It's strange to be back here as a teacher."

Aesir quickly began his way around the table to make it to the empty seat. He'd already been given a few angry glares by other professors for not being seated, and so he went as quickly as possible.
Hm...fifteen years, eh? Let's see...so then that would mean she was about...okay, and so she is roughly...six or seven years older than I am...Wow. I'm impressed! I thought she was give or take two years or so.
He finally pulled the seat back and thudded into it, slipping his satchel and broom off beside him so he could sit properly. He also put it down on his right so he could take advantage of 'accidentally' taking a closer inspection of her somewhat low cut dress. Quickly, he sat back up and smiled as he looked at the students being sorted.
Or at least, that's why it looked why he was smiling.
Aesir pondered his current predicament, looking to Elsbeth, then the other woman.
Decisions, decisions...
His train of thought was immediately interrupted when he heard the Hat talk. So was his drinking, as half a mouthful of pumpkin juice soared out of his nose. He coughed and sputtered, recieving a few glares from th other professors at the table, as well as a few curious glances and chuckles from students. He looked to Elsbeth.
"It talked!"
He quickly looked back to the blonde woman, asking reassuringly "It talked, right?"

Neoma may as well have had a welcome mat pinned to her lower lip, for all the flies that could've easily zoomed in an out. The little girl was in complete shock, this room was huge! And all these people, waiting to welcome them. This was so COOL!
She stared up at the ceiling for a good while, completely missing the speech given by the Deputy Headmaster and Headmistress. What did get her attention was the singing... which came from... the hat?! She looked at it wide eyed and almost lost her footing. Noticing that someone else at the staff table had a similar reaction humbled Neoma a little bit. It was comforting to know that it wasn't only eleven year olds who would have their first day at Hogwarts.
Mr. Novim then called up the first group of students. Each time their house was selected, the respective table burst into cheers. The school spirit was building in the room, and Neoma beamed with excitement.
That was when she heard Stevie's name. She looked to him, as he was still standing beside her, and she smiled exuberantly. "Go on." she urged.

Late again. Every year this happened, Alora was late for the Great Feast and had nearly missed the sorting. Yet again she found the door slightly ajar, and peered round the corner before seeing someone else making their way to an empty seat.
Moving in slowly, she tried not to make a sound before sitting down at the Ravenclaw table with the seventh years. She nodded towards a few people on other tables who she knew but most of the time kept her head down.
'Least it was better than last year she thought when she remembered that last year she had actually completely missed the ceremony and came in when the head was talking. Not the best of plans.

Stevie's eyes widened. This was now his time. Everything came down to this.
And suddenly, he was filled with nervousness. He still walked up, and sat on the bench. All he could think of was a mantra of
'Please let me be with friends...' of course, he didn't know that the hat could very well know what he was thinking. He was already a bit in shock of the hat. The HAT. TALKING. It was to be expected, the unexpected. That's why Stevie was so excited, although nervous at the moment.

The sat was plunked comfortably on the eleven year olds head. The face that was etched into it visibly scrunched as it pondered aloud.
"Ah, let's see now. Quite the mind I see, but a stronger still is the will to be just to your friends. The hat spoke into the mind of the child. Chuckling to itself in a non-demeaning way.
"Mmmm... you are a very talented boy. You will stand out, this I can promise you..." then the sorting hat spoke louder for the entire hall to hear. "and it will be in Gryffindor!"

Zea grinned. "It most certainly did. It's the Sorting Hat. It sorts students into their Houses. When I came here, I was in Ravenclaw, and now I'm Head of Ravenclaw. So I'm a Ravenclaw at heart. I can't help but be happy when I see new students being sorted into my house."
She tugged at the bodice of her dress again. Darn thing...
"Oh, I'm Zea Winters, by the way. I teach Ancient Runes."

Shellivia watched as the nervous new students were called one by one. She remembered her experience of and felt the pang of embarrassment as she remembered she had had to try to jump on stage then as well, only that time she had failed and hurt herself. The laughter was still ringing in her ears after all these years. She watched Alroa sneak covertly into the hall and she frown. How do they always manage to come in late? Honestly no matter how careful I watch them, students always manage to be late! The train gets here the same time for everyone so unless they flew... She shuddered involuntarily at the thought her flanks rippling and she shook her head lightly. Looking up again, she noticed Alex was peeking in. She raised her eyebrow. Blue? She'd have to go get him after to make sure he at least got a bit off food in him, hadn't this happened last year?
The hall had erupted again in cheers when the little boy with the strange wood and string thing was dubbed a Gryffindor. Strange how no students were Ravenclaw yet. A little tinge of sadness tugged at her heart, but she tried to ignore it. It wasn't like she held any loyalty to the house banner; it wasn't like it had been her home away from home when she'd been there. She clapped her encouragement along with the other professors, albeit not as enthusiastically as some.

Stevie grinned, and took his seat at Gryffindor. He was eerily silent, though. Definitely not like Stevie. Now came the hoping part. Please let Neoma or Keladry be on Gryffindor... Stevie knew deep down he had no control over this, but he always had to hope.

Althea clapped with about the same amount of gusto for each student who was sorted by the hat, except for those of house Ravenclaw, when she clapped a little louder. She leaned over to Nicholas, "Oh, there's another one for you to look after dear... Do you remember when you were first sorted? I thought for sure I was going to be a Hufflepuff like my brother was..." Her smile turned to a frown as she momentarily gazed off into the crowd of anxious students, but it quickly returned. "I remember being so upset about it, but I quickly realized that the hat was right, Ravenclaw was where I belonged."

Nicholas clapped with a smile to match his happiness at seeing the new students. He looked to the newest addition, Stevie Copeland, and tried to give him a reassuring look and smile, even a small wave of his hand.
"I do remember when I was first sorted. I was more excited than I was scared, really. But, I guess that didn't mean I was fearless either." he began chuckling a bit fondly at the memory. His eyes and voice took on a more humbled and fond tone. "I had always hoped to follow in my father's footsteps and be a Gryffindor too. I'm happy the Hat was considerate enough."
He smiled caringly at the memory of his father but soon dismissed it with a gentle pat on Althea's hand. "A good many things happened in the end, regardless of house."

"Indeed." She replied simply.
Vincent looked at the hat in awe, after all it did speak. Isabelle was still staring at Shellevia, unsure of what to make of the centaur and little Edward smiled at his father and pointed at the talking hat.
Edward opened his mouth let out some more baby babble..."Haaa-" He pointed at the sorting hat again and looked to his mother this time, "HaaaA!"
"Yes, that's right, hat." She reassured her youngest son.
