It was the thirty-first of October, and Halloween had arrived. The Great Hall was decorated for the holiday, and prepared for the Ball that would be starting shortly. The House-Elves had worked tirelessly throughout the day to ensure that every decoration was placed in its exact spot, and that the Great Hall was fully prepared for the festivities to come. Many flaming orange streamers swam across the ceiling. A thousand live bats roamed the Hall, bobbing and weaving their way through the streamers or perching themselves upside down in mid-air. Lining the room were candles placed in pumpkins, which gave off a warm and inviting glow to all who would gaze at their light. Scattered around the Great Hall were pumpkins of different sizes, some being as large as garden sheds. The tables were pushed to either side of the Hall, leaving space for a dance floor. At the back of the room, where the Professors’ table usually was placed, was a small stage, where a band and their instruments were set up. The band that Aesir had brought in were to play that night. The room was filled with the noise of the band tuning their instruments, and the occasional scratch of a quill on parchment. Elsbeth, was sitting at the table nearest to the entrance of the Great Hall. She was dressed up as Medusa, with transfigured, and animated snakes in her deep brown hair. She wore a long flowing teal colored dress with sheer material over her arms. The front of the bodice was open, but not too revealing. She had just finished going around with her parchment and quill and marking down that everything was in order. In mere moments, students would begin to arrive, and she would be waiting for them. Elsbeth rose from her seat and walked out of the Hall with a piece of parchment in her hand. Stopping right outside, she magically fastened it to the door. It read: Rules of Propriety
- It is recommended that, in keeping with the holiday spirit, you are dressed in a costume.
- There shall be no fighting in the Great Hall, or you will face the consequences.
- Have fun!

Stevie walked in, apparently early. Oh well. He liked these sort of things, and he'd probably bouncing off the walls by the end of this if they had sugary refreshments, which he hoped they did. He was wearing a black mask, and was wearing all black clothes. Stevie had arrived at the ball as a ninja.

Claire walked ito the great hall, wearing a black, just-above-knee dress, with a silver cardigan and had her dark hair straightened. She walked over near the side off the hall, not really wanting to get noticed and waited for more people to arrive.

Orynn waltsed into the Great Hall, admiring the decor. His 'costume' left much to be desired in terms of costumes sake, but such was expected by the deputy. His skin, hair, and eyes were made much paler by the red button up, long-sleeved, collared shirt he had on. It remained un-tucked into his black dress pants.
He walked around with his hands intertwined behind his back. He nodded at the older Slytherin girl he saw, Miss Walsh. The Great Hall was filling slowly with early comers, almost a dozen people already.
Orynn grabbed a glass of already filled pumpkin juice and went to the side of the Hallroom to lean on one of the table that had been pushed out of the way. He leaned his rear on the edge of the table, sipping at his drink. Waving at the Headmistress when he caught her eye.

'What is the difference between Parties, Dances and Balls? There isn't one, so why have one. Argh hate them, hate them, hate them. She thought.
Arriving at the Great Hall entrance, Alora took a deep breath, before putting on a graceful smile and pretending to enjoy herself. Taking hold of the right side of the dress, she pulled it down a bit, trying to cover as much of her leg as possible. Her costume, if you could call it that, was a bit too, how you say, poofy/sticky-outy or anything along those lines. The black dress came down to just above her knee, and had a white netting over the top, along with a flower just below her left shoulder. Her shoes were nothing special either, as they were hand-me-downs from her cousin, the black heeled shoes were a tad too big and she could barely walk in them, but they looked good.
Shoulder's back, Chest out and smile Alora thought, before walking quite slowly into the Hall and looking around to find someone to go and talk to, or alternatively somewhere to sit.

Post by Lilianne Wesker on Dec 16, 2007 16:16:59 GMT -5
Lilianne was half dragged into the Great Hall by her sister's classmate, Mary Prawett. The older Ravenclaw had taken quite a liking to the young Gryffindor, and they had helped each other with their costumes.
They were both dressed as pirates, Mary wearing a black corset over a red dress, which was slit open at the legs over stripped stockings. She wore a bandana over her hair and she carried a fake sword.
Lilianne was wearing a blue coat over a white shirt and black pants, and she wore a tricorne on her head. She also had a fake sword and a flintlock on her belt.
Lilianne was keeping a little behind Mary, as if she was too shy to come in. Once she entered the great hall however, she forgot her shyness in awe of the decor.
"Wow... this is all so pretty!"
"I told you this would be fun! Come on, lets go show our costumes to my friends over there. Yarr!" Mary said, grabbing Lilianne's hand and taking her to a group of Ravenclaws.

Elsbeth wandered the Hall, greeting the students and staff as they entered and looked around. The Ball would be starting, shortly, and Elsbeth was very anxious to see how things would turn out.
As she walked the Hall, she noticed the Deputy Headmaster sitting by the table off the side, and went over to greet him. "Good evening, Orynn, glad to see you're participating in the night's festivities."

Dónall wore a long green blazer with long coat-tails, over a plain white shirt with a ruffled collar. His pants were the same dark forest shade of green as his jacket.
He was dressed very classy and not quite in a costume, but still interestingly enough to be considered differently dressed.
He walked into the Great Hall, admiring the decorations, silently praising the Headmistress on a job well done. The decorations had never been this wondrous before, and seeing as this was the Headmistress' first time planning a Ball, he knew it could only be due to her gifted planning.
He wandered the Hall a bit, taking in the sights, and stopping briefly in front of the stage to watch the band tune up.They seemed just about ready to begin, he thought.
He continued forward, making his way to the refreshment table, and a bench nearby. He grabbed a goblet of pumpkin juice juice and sat down on the bench to await the official start of the Ball.
From Dónall's experience so far, it was known that the Ball only started once the band began their first song.
As he sat and waited, he caught sight of the Jannings girl, looking pretty in a black dress with white netting, and a flower near her left shoulder. She looked a little shaky on those shoes, though. Funny that he should notice her right away; they hadn't run into each other since the encounter that had brought about a civil truce between them. He tried to catch her eye.

Orynn sensed the sarcasm in his boss's voice. He grinned slightly as he nodded, and made a motion with his hand that gave her permission to sit beside him. He was on the table's bench, legs outstretched and crossed, and his elbows propped up on the table he was leaning his back upon. When Orynn spoke, his costume, or lack thereof, was revealed. He had used magic to elongate his canine teeth, thus making him look like a vampire. Contrary to what would commonly be concluded, Orynn seemed to have no difficulty speaking.
"'Tis a very good evening Miss. Pleasure to see you here as well."[/color]

Elsbeth smiled and sat down next her Deputy Headmaster. She looked around the room, happy that the students had dressed up for the occasion and were enjoying themseleves already.
She turned back to Orynn, when he answered her, and she then noticed what his costume was. He had vampire teeth. "Splendind costume, Orynn. Nice usage of your skills."

There is the distinct sound of heavy thudding footsteps and metal coming towards the Great Hall. Finally, it walked through the doorway, standing almost six and a half feet tall, black serrated amour and wreathed in purple eldritch flames. It wore a complete suit of full plate armour, the eye sockets burning an unholy crimson red with the right arm covered in a strange and unsettling growth that ended in a three clawed hand that could easily palm a basket ball. It sauntered down into the Ball, heading towards the drink table. ( xboxer.tv/sc4_pub_ss_nightmare001.jpg ) Slow, heavy and laboured breathing could be heard coming from it as it rumbled in a deep demonic voice " Out of my way, mortal, if you value your soul." and other such threats to students that got in the way. Meanwhile, up on the stage, the began had begun to set up and were almost ready. There were four members; a bass, electric guitar, drummer and a banjo. The drummer was dressed up as a zombie with part of his head open, the guitarist was a Buddhist monk with a mohawk, the banjo player was a girl dressed as a cowgirl, and the bassist in a Star wars pilot outfit. ( www.jedi-academy.com/props/smith_pilot2.jpg ) The band was fine tuning their equipment and almost ready to play.

Post by Dr. Althea Lannsman on Dec 16, 2007 19:01:25 GMT -5
Althea entered the hall she wearing an elaborate swan costume. Her white knee length dress puffed out at the sides and the fringe was cut to resemble the shapes of feathers. The bustle that stuck out from behind looked like tail feathers. The sleeves where tight and on the insides of her arms had the same fabric from her dress cut into the shape of wings. Her hair was slicked and tied back and pinned to it was a hat that resembled a swan head, the black beak forming a point half way down the bridge of her nose. The whole dress shimmered with sequins. She wore black leggings and black shoes underneath the dress.
Her children, followed her in, Vincent was dressed as a knight. His costume consisted of shinny silver material to look like it was joined armor. His silver hat had a red plume sticking out the top. At his hip he carried a fake wooden sword.
His sister Isabelle was dressed in a frilly pink medieval style dress complete with a pointed hat with a silk scarf sticking out the top. She carried a sequin wand with a star at the top.
Althea carried in her arms, Edward the youngest of the children, dressed like a frog. he wore a bright green sleeper with a yellow belly. The hood had 2 bulgy eyes on top. The feet of the out fit were sewn to look like flippers and flopped back and forth when the baby kicked.
Althea surveyed the hall, commenting and complimenting the student's costumes as well as the staff's. Her eyes fell on the demonic knight in the hall.
"Oh no..." She said quietly to herself...

The soft pitter-patter of feet ferreted down the great hall, before the maker of said sounds burst into the great hall.
I'm late, I'm late...how Ironic.
He sauntered in, striding a might bit more calmly when he realized that actually he wasn't late.
Oh my, this is good.. i could have sworn it was later than I thought.
Dressed in a funny suit of a yellow button up shirt, purple over coat with tails, and long purple pants, he adjusted the monocle on his right eye, and tipped his large purple top hat to a side, a white card marked 'in this style 10/6' on it.
He glanced around giving boisterous hello's to student's he recognizes and polite nods to the faces he hasn't quite yet learned the names of. He also looks around pointedly, nodding with a large smile to the headmistress, and performing a very silly bow, before straightening and making his way to the refreshment tables.
He hadn't quite noticed Althea yet, but his distinct loud and talkative voice could be heard over some of the quieter chatter.

The tell tale clip clop was heard and a few moments before she is seen, Butter, her squirrel, comes running into the hall covered in patches of white sparkley powder. Shellivia herself walked in looking a bit annoyed with her squirrel. She was covered head to toe with a white shiny powder that rendered her snow white. On her back a bit behind where her torso rose up, there seem to have grown a pair of large white wings, that were at the moment furled and neatly tucked against her shoulders and trailed along along her flanks. She smiled at a few of the students and walked briskly around the hall for a moment, leaving hoof prints of the glittery dust in her wake. She scooped Butter up, who looked grumpy about being spotted, and smiled to Elsbeth before procuring herself a goblet of pumpkin juice and spotting a very scary looking knight and a poofy looking swan. Deciding the swan was the safer of the two she trotted over and giggled naturedly at Althea's foals. " I guess wings are in fashion this season. She chuckled to herself a bit before speaking again, " And your foals look quite lovely and dashing. How are you this evening?"

Post by Madame Minka Davinmir on Dec 16, 2007 22:52:55 GMT -5
Minka entered the hall well into the evening. Saying she was late would have been an understatement, she was at least 2 hours late for the ball.
She wore embroidered golden robes and a headdress with golden stag horns protruding from it. Needless to say it was a stunning, but peculiar costume. A stag's tail was sewn onto the robes at the back. Wrapped around her neck was a silk scarf that she wore rather high up, covering her neck as much as possible. Her hands were covered by long, elbow length black leather gloves, that seemed to clash with the rest of her costume.
She looked around at the guests that had already arrived, analyzing what they were wearing, wondering if her costume fit in with everyone else's. Seeing the over the top knight surrounded by purple flame made her feel a little more at ease.
The expression on her face was perturbed and kept her hands underneath her robes as much as possible. She mingled with the students and staff, most people doing their best to avoid the head of house Hufflepuff, as she had a tenancy to make people feel uncomfortable...
Observant people attending the party would notice that she was doing a good job of avoiding Dr. Lannsman.
