Orynn peered over the top of his book. Staring at the student who walked in.
"Excellent, Mr. Kennedy." Orynn said as he shut his book and sat up with his tea still in hand. He walked over to his podium and set his item down, looking down to his student.
"Had there been anything you wanted to speak to me about?" Orynn thought to ask this due to the students behavior a number of classes ago. Regarding the time, it probably had something to do with the 'ceremonial' duel.

The Deputy Headmaster was in his classroom much earlier than necessary. In fact he was enjoying some tea in front of the fire place at the back of the classroom. The chair in which he sat was a very dark shade of green, and glowed in a way when absorbing the light from the first.
Orynn had a book rested on one knee and a mug of tea in his head that he rested on the arm of the chair. He sipped at it every so often, not expecting students to come for some time.

Leaning on his good leg noticeable, Orynn looked at the Ravenclaw student, jabbing his wand towards the candle.
"This is, indeed, a candle. It feels like a candle, it looks like a candle, and functions as one should as well. For all intent and purposes, there's no reason to think it not a candle, except for that we, as in all of us in this room, know that it isn't. It's really my cane. If I believe it not to be a candle, and truly a cane, then to transfigure it into a vase I need not imagine the candle at all. Because, my intent it to change true appearance, and not it's disguise."
Orynn looked out the window, and saw the placement of the sun and the length of the shadows.
"Class is dismissed, please read up on Gamp's Law for homework."

"You're on the right track Mister MacDougal." Orynn was almost beaming at his students.
"As we discovered last class, Transfiguration is not a linear process. This is very important to understand. Object A can be transfigured into Object B, but to then perform another transfigurations spell requires taking a half-step back, if you will. Object B, must revert back to Object A before it can become Object C, even though it may not be visually interpreted that way."
Orynn stabbed his cane into the ground before him, and it remained there after he took his hand off the hilt. He pointed his wand at it, as some of the students in the back row stood up or leaned sideways to see better.
"Res Rei Verto." The cane twisted quickly and shrunk dramatically. It's bottom widened and was semi circular. In no time, the cane had transformed into an unlit candle with a base and holder.
"Knowing what I've just tried to explain to you. If I want to transfigure this candle into a clear glass vase, and not back into a cane, what would be different between this specific spell and the one I had just cast? Or any initial transfiguration?"

Orynn smiled, now within the heat of the lesson. This was where his passion laid. He raised his cane and jabbed it in Mister MacDougal's direction, though there was no threat of actually harming the student.
"Closer still Mister MacDougal, but I fear you're not quite there yet. It is-- yes Miss Bay?" The Professor called upon a Hufflepuff.
"I think I know what you're getting at Sir. Are you saying Transfiguration can be detect... by Transfiguration?"
"Yes!" Orynn could almost be described as elated. "There is indeed a foolproof way of finding out whether some thing's been transfigured, by attempting to transfigure it yourself."

Orynn stood still, staring at his students. None had ventured to give a response yet. For an answer that appeared so difficult, it was ridiculously simple once found.
"Think." Orynn said. "Sometimes the answer is much easier to grasp than you make it out to be. It's really not all that difficult."
A Gryffindor boy raised his hand. "With magic, Sir? Can you detect Transfiguration with a spell?"
"You are nearly there Mr. Potter. Think more specifically."
The classroom grew quiet.

"You are in a way, Mister MacDougal, already describing what we've already learned. If I attempt to transfigure a copy of an object, without knowing every detail of the original, than anyone closely examining both objects will soon discover that magic has taken place. These details can be color, or pattern, height or even weight. A truly gifted wizard or witch can only ever hope to make an undetectable copy of an object by means of Transfiguration. As for your other example, I believe that just to be bad spell casting, plainly."

[OOC: Due to the fact that there are no 4th years in the course, I can't be bothered to pretend to teach students that only consist of NPCs. If a 4th year does register, well then that will change everything of course]Orynn snatched his cane from behind the podium, and leaned on it slightly as he approached the now full classroom. "For the third years, in case it wasn't already made clear what you will be learning this year is how Transfiguration works at it's most basic and fundamental levels. In learning that, you'll also obtain knowledge on the limitations of the magical art."
"Last class, I demonstrated one of many ways Transfiguration can be detected. We saw that with the two tea cups. Can anyone think of another scenario that would indicate, if not at least hint, that a Transfiguration spell took place?"

Orynn stood at the head of the class, awaiting his students to arrive. He was dressed in a formal sea-green colored button-up shirt. With navy blue trousers, and his rings which he was commonly found to be wearing.

Orynn did nothing but wave the student away, not having the right mind frame to deal with the situation. If he knew he would be too harsh, or say something he'd regret, he would do nothing. So he grounded his cane again and stood up straight to watch the other students throw their tennis balls.
"Now..." he spoke up when every student had had a go. "Let's try again, and this time without the metaphorical 'incantation.'"
Orynn tapped the cane on the stone floor twice. The light in the room immediately dimmed. Not to the point where you couldn't see two inches in front of your nose, but students first in line definately had to wait a moment before being able to see the targets standing some feet in fron of them on the other side of the classroom.

Orynn had already been in a foul mood, nearly toppling onto his face was not on the days itinerary, he was most certain. The surprise caused him to lose balance momentarily, as his cane left the ground. He bent forward at the hip, and his face scrunched in pain as he had to put a lot of weight on both his feet.
He was able to stand straight up again. And he glared at the student.
"What I would give to know whose face you envisioned at the center of the target, Miss Wesker."

The group of first years formed a line, they weren't perfect, but what was he expecting? Now the first student in line was roughly ten feet away from the target they were aligned with. Orynn moved with his cane, as it thunked on the stone floor every time he took a step, and found three green tennis balls behind his podium. He walked back towards the students. Holding all three in one hand, lifting them up so that the students could see them.
"Imagination is key to any Transfiguration, as you will soon learn. For the time being, pretend that these muggle balls are your wands. The light in this room, is the incantation that you would speak to cast a spell. Now..." He threw a ball to each student who was first in line. One of them being Miss Lindenhield, the others were Miss Alomar and Mr Dedric, both Gryffindors. "...seeing as you have all the components necessary to cast a spell at your level. Please... attempt to throw the ball to the target. Hitting it in the very middle will count as a successful cast."
Orynn smiled and stood out of the way. Waiting patiently.

Orynn finished lining up the targets, so that they were each spaced apart from one another equally. They were facing the groups of students, who were all standing quite awkwardly when Orynn turned around to look at the youngsters. He walked close to them, using his cane to walk, holding his free arm out to give them a barrier.
"Form three lines in front of each device. Quickly, now!"

Most, if not all the students had arrived, and were now seated in class. The time ticked away, and still no professor. Finally, a loud boom sounded from the doors as they were pushed open enough to let a human body in. Orynn walked inside, looking extremely cross. He held a cane in his left hand, using it to walk his way towards the back of the room. He made eye-contact with his students, and did not return their waves or hello's in anyway. He finally spun around to face his students. Both of his hands on his cane, which he poised in front of him. "Last class we learned about the different ways to cast spells. The traditional fashion being with wand and voicing the incantation. The second being without the later, and the last being voiceless and without a wand. Today I intend to demonstrate the difference between the three as best I can. Before we begin are there any questions?" He quickly raised his cane and brought it hard back onto the ground, the noise echoing in the room and catching some students off guard. "Good. Wands away." Apparently, the Deputy was in no mood to answer questions. He stepped down from his podium and urged some students in the first row to get out of there seats. We walked some of the desks, and hit three in a row with his cane as he passed them. They melted, morphed and reformed into some odd contraption which non-muggle students would not recognize. It was moutned on a wooded frame, and looked like a picture. But the "picture" was nothing but large red and white circles, each within the other. The center was a large red circle which, if stared at too long, started to make you feel dizzy. "Please, do get up and move to that end of the class room." With a wave of his arm, the targets were moved to the end of the opposite end of the room. Orynn started to try positioning them so they were all facing straight on.

The class was completely barren save for the fire that roared in the back of the room. There was no indication that the Professor had arrived yet, but the doors to the classroom were unlocked.
