Don stood just outside the Deputy Headmaster's office, ready to knock on the door. He was there to maybe discuss his own brief absence from the school, and the noted change of behaviour and demeanor of his Head of House. He knew something was wrong.
He knocked twice, and waited to enter the office.

Donall laughed, too, for the first time in months. He knew that somehow everything would work out alright; it was just a matter of getting to that point.
"Thank you, Sir." he said, with a genuine smile, "Thank you."

"...I can't face him alone." he said, quietly. "I just can't."
Looking up at the professor, Don let a small sigh and continued. "So what do we do?" The knight had finally broken through to the boy; the use of the word 'we' was something that had very rarely occured in Donall's everyday vocabulary.

"It doesn't have to continue. I could run away, never go home again. Anything, just... I don't want to be his puppet!" As he finished his sentence, Don's voice grew a little louder, a bit more passionate. "I just want to be me for once!"
"Sir, I don't want to go back there... I'll stay in the castle, even if it means spending the summer with you and you Gryffindor spawn." Though he spoke in a serious tone, the last bit brought a tugging smile at his lips. He didn't let it turn into a full smile, though. It just wasn't the time for that.

"Last night was scary, to say the least." he said, eyes widening in remembrance of the night's activities. "Glad to see you out and about, though"
"Erm, sir, maybe it wouldn't be such a good idea for you to speak with my father. I wasn't supposed to discuss this with anyone..."

"Sir, you have it all wrong." Don said, surprised that he was about to tell the truth. "I don't dislike you, you're actually the one staff wizard I really do like. I admire you..."
He paused and let out a breath he didn't know he had been holding, and then continued to speak. "It may have seen that way from the way I acted, but I've explained my actions to you, before and now."
"I think it may be a good diea to stay at the castle, where it's... safe. Or at least, it should be safe, in some ways."

"Curse breakers are pretty proactive, don't you think, sir? It's almost on the same level as aurors, too, but I don't think I'd want to be an auror."
Donall still leanedback against the window, but eased his stance a bit, looking less nervous. "At least that part of my life is somewhat figured out. It's the rest that needs some work."

"I was looking into a job as a Curse Breaker. It's always appealed to me." Don then went silent to further ponder his situation, and then spoke again.
"I've still got one year of Hogwarts after this, but it's the summer between I'm more worried about right now."

"I really don't know, sir." he said, a small frown on his face. "I turn seventeen in a couple of months, and then I have free access to my bank accounts if I move fast. I don't want to go back home, but I don't know if I have a choice in the matter... Where could I possibly go?"
With a sigh, Don turned around and leaned back against the window. He stared at his shoes, again.

Joining the knight at the window, he hesitated for just a second before answering carefully. "No, not at all sir. Not physically, anyway. He knows better than that; he could get caught much easier if he were to do something foolish like that..."
"I suppose sometimes this way is worse, though. Doesn't show much on the outisde, but then your insides are all messed up."

Still, Donall remained silent, thinking over what he would say and how he would say it.
Finally, he spoke, quietly but clearly. "I spent that week locked in my room, my father my only visitor. The floo network to the manor had been shut down and I had no access to quills, parchment or an owl. My father didn't want me to have any distractions..."
Don breathed in deeply, and let out a sigh. "And... I suppose he just wanted to drill it into me how important our family is and that I need to act a certain way to be a part of it. I was told if I don't shape up I would never be allowed to leave the manor again... I shouldn't be a disgrace to the family name..."
There was more to say, but he didn't quite know how to get it out.

Don stared down at the floor as they walked; he was very uncomfortable. When he answered, he looked up but couldn't meet the professor's eyes.
"I understand, sir, but it really wasn't so uncalled for." he paused for a few moments, awkward silence washing over him.
Then, he continued. "I... I wanted to explain about what happened when I was home for that week. Maybe it would help you understand why I acted the way I did..."

Don looked away from the two boys who had come to his aid, and glanced at the girl who had been the target of his Housemates.
"Hey kid, you alright?" he asked, feeling that it was necessary to inquire and show a bit of concern. The words sounded strange coming out of his mouth; he wasn't usually like this.

"Ah great, a duel. Just what I bleeding well needed!" Don said, his words dripping with sarcasm.
He put his wand back where he had pulled it from, and turned to face his fellow sixth year students, the Gryffindor and the Ravenclaw. "I'm not decent, Woodward. I'm a far cry from ever being a decent boy. I just saw my Housemates acting like the arses they are and wanted to rectify the situation. They've been on my case for far too long now."
Realizing he had shared too much information, he shut himself up, not wanting them to think he'd truly gone soft or anything. He stood there, eyes rooted to the ground, feet shuffling on the paved courtyard ground.
'What have you gotten yourself into, Kennedy?! Duels are public!'

Dónall wasn't surprised at the Slytherin boys' readiness and willingness to start a fight. That was what these ones in particular were known for; he had been one of the gang once, doing exactly just that.
He was surprised, though, to find that he had some backup from the noble house of Gryffindor and the intellectual Ravenclaw. Gavin Woodward and Rodolphus Maynard had joined him in his stance.
He nodded back at Gavin and acknowledged Rudy with a curt "Rodolphus." He slowly pulled out his wand, thinking through what was about to happen if he chose to follow through with hat had just been started.
"Like I said Ant, I'm not here to fight with you, but if I have to, I will. You and I both know what the outcome would be. Let's save each other the embarrassment and pain that comes along with dueling, and just how about you and Hec walk away?"
